Ok- did anyone else catch Bush insulting immigrants today?
I heard the press conference between appointments today.

Pretty scary listening to the "Leader of The Free World" stumbling his way through it.

I can't find a transcript through Google, but I swear I heard him say something like, "We need immigrants to come to this country to do the jobs Americans won't do."

At first I thought it was a thoughtless statement that would go unnoticed... but then he said it again... and then AGAIN!

Am I insane? Or did anyone else notice his elitist remark which relegates all immigrants to sub-human servitors?

Was that on purpose?

Aldus Huxley was right.

6. This worries me... That only a handful of Americans can
Divine the true nature of this man.

This country is wrought with ignorance... and this administration thrives on it.

I think, just for the sake of independant study, I will E-mail Bush's remarks to a few choice individuals on my 'contacts' list.
I will say something like, "I'm so glad this president recognizes the struggle of these people and wants them to have a place in our society doing all the jobs that are below Americans to perform. Thank God for a leader like Bush!"

-Yeah something like that... Why don't you try it too?

;)

3. He really said that?!
Probably through lack of anything else to say, but that just sounds horrible. If that is true, I am frightened.

4. Why do you want to be amazed?
He's been a total fucktard for four years. Getting reselected is supposed to make him smarter? A Bush press conference is like listening to mud talk.

5. I don't think its quite that.
Bush doesn't see Americans as anything besides a labor input. He doesn't see foreigners as anything besides a labor input. He sees Americans as malfunctioning, and foreigners as functioning, hands. That's all. In Bush's dehumanized view of the world, both Americans and non americans are subhuman cogs, and one is cheaper than the other.

Americans will have to move over because capital needs labor, and if we aren't it, then it will be somebody else.

11. That's pretty much it...
Except it isn't fair to them or to us. Another thing I might remind folks is that certain Democrats have said this very same thing. "They do work other Americans won't do"... It's really pathetic at this point.

Bringing foreigners into this country to work for slave wages...isn't that, well, SLAVERY?

At some point, Vincente Fox needs his ass kicked! WE send millions of $$ to him. What does he do with it? He spreads it around to his cronies and they live in the lap of luxury..at least comfort, while the outlying Mexican citizens live in the harshest conditions trying to keep body and soul together.

NAFTA, CAFTA and "haveta" are ruining the ecomonic well being of the small farmer/workers in these countries. Big corps buy up the small farmers which sends them to the city OR to the US (or elsewhere).

There is no nationally beneficial infrastructure there. The rule of law is conditional. There are no programs to help the citizens partake of the economic pie, no safty net programs, NO HELP for the very poor or the struggling lower income workers and unfair trade.

In the meantime, we send over $$$, the tourist trade dumps large sums of money into their economy, there are billionaires living there, and non Mexican foreigners are building expensive homes/communities there as I type. It's outrageous what that country is being allowed to get away with and what this country hides on that issue.

I was just talking about some of this with our Mexican Immigrant friends. They say it really really sucks..for all the reasons I've mentioned. My friend said his brother had a Fruit Farm/Orchard. He LOVED his farm. He made a living at it UNTIL NAFTA/big corps et al came along. All of a sudden, selling his product to the country or to us was almost impossible. He couldn't make a living anymore and had to give it up. The man is in the US now working as a............waiter!!!!!!!!!

For the most part, these people are being used as pawns in a politcal game. It's outrageous. The problem doesn't lie with the people who need to earn their living, it lies with the Governments--American & Mexican!

FINALLY, I heard a caller to a radio show bring up Vincente Fox and the unethical alliance between this country and Mexico.

There's a whole lot of asskicking that needs to commence between our gov and the Mexican gov. PDQ Iraq? Hell, we've got human rights violations and undemocratic policy makers living right next door!

Ultimately, we're all just a "slave labor" pool, it's just that some of us will work cheaper than others. What a freaking mess.

And I thought well Gee Whiz Mr President if you give them a green card they won't be stuck in sub-human roles. They will get real jobs, and then who will be the slaves?

It did not go without notice.

10. See, but without illegal labor, employers would have to pay more...
...and then Americans WOULD do those jobs.

This logic escapes people how?

12. It's a fact. There are many jobs that many employers would
not be able to fill if not for new immigrants and illegal aliens. Fortunately the workers can usually take or send home what they make and feed their families well in their home country.

Anyone who has lived in a southwestern state has seen this dynamic at work. I even see it here in suburban DC.

13. Why cant he insult them?
I have nothing against legal immigrants, but when we have MILLIONS that are here illegally something has to be done. They are breaking the law and i feel that being insulted should be the last thing on their minds.

18. I don't believe he mentioned the legal status of the immigrants.
And--if you're truly concerned about illegal immigration--ensure that you do not benefit from it. Check every restaurant you visit--do all the employees have green cards? And every bit of produce you buy--was it picked by US Citizens?

Insult the exploiters. They're getting rich & they're breaking the law, too--the law of their very own country.

17. Laws
If the laws that are on the state and govt. books will vigorously enforced quite a lot of the states would be better off. The reason that the Rethugs and Dems do not do anything but talk about the problem is that business owners lobby them not to enforce the laws as they could. To make illegal immigrants legal isn't a solution.
