Interesting reply from UCC on separation of Church and State |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-21-04 09:19 AM by DeepGreen
A while back I sent a question to the United Church of Christ (UCC) asking their position about serparation of Church and State. I just got this reply:
"Historically, the UCC has been very clear on stressing the importance of separation of church and state. However, with local churches have autonomy to follow their own leanings, we are not in complete agreement. I think you will find that most churches that value the basic tenets of the UCC will tell you that separation of church and state is a "must" for freedom of religious faith and practice. "

3. It is important to understand the UCC governing arrangement |
|
The arrangement is from bottom to top. The opposite of,say, the catholic church. The leadership tries very hard to encourage (not mandate) such things as the separation of church and state, "open and affirming" of gays and lesbians and lots of other important issues that Jesus actually mentioned as opposed to something buried in the arcane laws of the old testament.
