WHITE HOUSE Despite a high-profile rift in recent months, the leader of the N-double-A-C-P says he had a frank, man-to-man meeting with President Bush today at the White House.

Kweisi Mfume (kwah-EE'-see oom-FOO'-may) says he and Bush covered a wide range of topics, from Social Security to civil rights.

But Mfume says the two men did not discuss an I-R-S review of the N-double-A-C-P, a move that has been a very sore point with the organization.

Mfume says Bush was worried about how his relationship with the organization could affect future U-S presidents.

3. Two of my fondest college memories came from one night of drinking

in the woods off campus.

There were about 12 of us having a blast. There was one African American and one slightly racist Caucasian. Every time a twig snapped in the woods my AA friend would jump out of his seat. Every time he did this the racist thought he was going to get his ass kicked so he jumped too.

It wasn't until I was half in the bag that I pointed this out to them. While it was a lesson in race relations, it still was pretty damned funny to watch.

I imagine bush acted very much the same way.
