19 soldiers dead in US base in Baghdad
This brings the total to 1,319. This was the most deadly single attack. Buzzflash has the story.

1. They were eating lunch when the attack occured
Bush says he hopes the relative of those killed know that their loved ones died for a vital mission.

7. yeah, vital mission,
to get Halliburton and it's subsidiaries in there and all the rest of the American Corporations that took over Iraqi spoils, and to enhance the image of the little twerp prick George Bush the younger, the AWOL coward Commander in Chief who sent them to their death for his own pleasure and for his own greed and enhancement

There is NO reason why we should be there and why we should continue on with this useless slaughter.

We lost the war in Iraq and the only ones who have made out like bandits are the corporations firmly place there by Paul Bremmer.

The hell with the little paeons who die--they are not important, when the billions of dollars Halliburton profits from their blood is considered.

And, oh, be sure to visit the maimed in Walter REed--and bring along the "nation's comforter" to make it look compassionate and caring.

Otherwise, why bother your beautiful mind with the some 1, 305 who are dead because you used them according to your own greed. Ignore them, Mrs. Nation's Comforter and don't forget, wave to the cameras.

3. have the names been released yet?
and have they named what company the subcontractors worked for who were killed/injured?

We've got soldiers and subcontractors from our community over there now and...

Just wondering if anyone has seen names yet, or knows where to look.

Thanks.

4. I heard the names of the military units on ABC
Edited on Tue Dec-21-04 07:29 PM by babylonsister
News tonight but don't remember them. One was from Maine. Also, some Brown and Root employees were among the dead. Maybe a search of ABC might give you add'l info.
Edit: It takes 24-48 hours to notify families so some don't even know yet. This probably means the names won't be released for awhile.

8. thanks...I'll go hunt there
I'm a journalist from a small town that has already sacrificed one soldier for this war.

Every time there is a death I cringe.

Obviously I cringe a lot.

9. Was base perimeter secured ?
See post #5 at http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=1446291&mesg_id=1446336

If RPG-7 rockets were used a 500 meter radius should have been secured. Ask how accurate whatever rockets used and distances required...Why this accuracy ?

11. I'm not up to speed, but read somewhere may have been a mortar...
may not be right though. Whatever it was, it blew up in a very unfortunate location.

12. My point exactly ... Base perimeter wasn't secure to 500 meters
Edited on Tue Dec-21-04 09:29 PM by EVDebs
as even the Russians were doing IF this were an RPG7. News tonight said the 'rocket' had ball bearing sized shrapnel.

I just want our guys OUT OF IRAQ after these elections. Let them have their civil war...the oil won't be going anywhere and we can always be invited back for another go around.

Also, if a mortar shell-- the DoD can backtrack this (see http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2002/NickishaBerlus.shtml ) and find out where that shell was fired from ... possibly from 3 miles, but that amount of exactness, hmmmm dumb bad luck.

13. This is just awful but * and co are redefining the word so frequently.
Did * make some provocative comment about the insurgents yesterday at his press conference?

14. Now we learn it's a suicide bomber we let onto the base
Now the question becomes, did the Army secure the base or did contractors secure the base ?
