The newest MoveOn request - worthwhile or just really stupid? |
|
The latest MoveOn request (just received via email) tells of how MoveOn will be meeting shortly with the Democratic Senators, and wants us all to tell them what they can do to help.
Here's the kicker: they (MoveOn) would like each participant to take a digital picture of themselves, holding a sign with a short phrase ("keep us free", "work for us", etc.) and send it to MoveOn, so they can show them to the Senators.
Aside from the fact that my sign ("show some balls") would never make the cut, I find this idea to be ridiculous.
Thoughts?

1. This is an interesting proposal |
|
The upside is that a picture really is worth a 1000 words, but I'm not sure it would work in this context. It did have amazing results at a website called imsorry.com or maybe it's sorry.com

I thought "sorryeverybody.com" was a flaky idea until I actually saw it in action, then I thought it very powerful.
My thoughts are that MoveOn's point is to, rather than deliver pile upon pile of signatures, which in some ways has perhaps become passe or overlooked, to really put a "face to the base" of the Party and find a way to re-invigorate the "petition" process.

Do you suppose there's a gas leak at the MoveOn office or something?

How about pictures of folks organized by state all showing a consistent message?
I like "show some balls" and if you translated that into "oppose <insert horrible bush policy here>" it would have more impact than everyone doing their own thing.

I filled out their survey a while back and was adamant about them getting involved with Theft'04, but I still get emails from them.
