2. Well, not quite
Edited on Wed Dec-22-04 06:39 PM by MaineDem
The court ruled in the Dems favor on the recount but the race hasn't been decided yet.

On edit...I see you've changed your Subject line. The Dems have won a battle but not the war, yet. But it's a great victory nonetheless.

5. Call Me A Pessimist
I'm not ready to break out the champagne just yet.

Doubtless the Republicans will take this to the Supreme Court, which has already set a precedent with Bush vs. Gore.

But, if Gregoire wins, it will be wonderful, and not just because Washington state will have a Democratic governor. Finally the Republicans will feel cheated by the electoral system. This will be good because maybe then they will start to realize that we need reforms and there are issues. Or maybe not, but they certainly won't as long as they keep coming out on top of things like this.

I think we must all praise Sam Reed. He is the Secretary of State, and a Republican. He is fighting for the rights of the voter, even though it goes against his party's interests. I know some would say we shouldn't praise a man for doing his job, but after what Katherine Harris did in 2000....

7. I'm with you regarding Sam Reed
I wish I could be more eloquent about it, but I think it was a good and courageous thing he did in siding with King County to get those votes counted.

9. I Sent Him An E-Mail
Thanking him for standing with voters.
Here is the text of the e-mail

"Thank you for standing up for the rights of voters in your statement that counties should be able to include ballots rejected from the original tally in error to be included in a recount. I know many in your party disagree with you on this, but hope most people recognize that you are correct to put the rights of the voter ahead of partisanship. People must have faith that their elections officials will make every attempt to ensure all votes are counted and no one is inadvertently disenfranchised."

his e-mail address: sreed@secstate.wa.gov

If you are going to e-mail him, keep it nice, try not to make it partisan! I tried not to make it a slam on Republicans, but said I was from Florida, so maybe he'll understand my little dig.

11. He needs to be taken to school on Black Box Voting--
--but ethically he's a decent guy in the Dan Evans mold. Didn't think they were making Republicans like that anymore.
