Let's just tell the truth about the Republicans...
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 01:41 PM by kentuck
As Harry Truman so noted, "If they stop telling lies about us, then we'll stop telling the truth about them..." (perhaps slightly paraphrasing)

They lie as part of their political strategy - not as a character flaw per se. For example, they say the Democrats are "big spenders" and want to raise your taxes for big government programs. What is the truth? The Repubs since Ronald Reagan have been the "biggest spenders" in the history of this nation. As they claim to cut your taxes, they put it in one pocket and take it out of the other, and usually, just a little more than they gave you to begin with.

They say the Democrats are "weak on defense". Look at what happened with the USS Cole and the Kobar Towers, they say. However, let's not look at the 241 Marines killed in Beirut under Reagan because of a disastrous military decision. Let's not look at the 3000 people killed at the Pentagon and WTC under George W Bush. Let's blame it on Bill Clinton. Let's not rationally analyze the "catastrophic success" in Iraq with the brilliant military planning of this most recent crop of military strategists.

Let's tell the truth about the Repubs and stop being defensive about our own record. We always create more jobs than the Republicans - no matter how much they cut taxes for their wealthy friends. That's a fact. It is the Democratic Party that offers the only hope to the working and middle-class people in this country. Because the Repubs lie about their intentions to help people. Why? Because they distrust government in all its forms. Yes, we believe our government can be good. It is not evil like the Repubs say. They destroy everything we have tried to build up for the last 70 years. They are liars and manipulators. And that's the truth about the Republican Party.

1. The Cole happened on Clinton's watch
and the investigation had already determined it was al Qaeda when Bush got in and decided to drop it. Rice said it was "history," whatever that was supposed to mean, probably "boring stuff that happened on somebody else's time that we don't care about because we want a glorious war in Iraq."

Oh, I insist on telling the truth about them, and the main truth I tell about them is that they're profoundly unchristian.

That generally stops them in their tracks.

3. I know...perhaps I should have made it clearer...?
My point being that yes, we have lost some people under Democratic presidents, but nowhere near the number the Republicans lose under their "strong national defense"...

5. This is one of their Biggest Lies
IF they were such strong defenders of America WHY was al Qaeda not the number one priority on Bush's agenda? When he stepped into the WH he had a surplus and few worries other than Corporate Wrong doing.

IF IF IF they were the Great Protectors and knew that Clinton were soft on world terror and their acumen on safety were true WHY WHY WHY was al Qaeda/terrorism not a high priority?

LIE LIE LIE

2. Yup.
It has been this way since the early 90's and perfected with Rove in Texas.

This will continue until the media somehow finds a way to become the fourth estate again. Won't be soon.

The combination of manipulation of information by the right and control of media is nearly unbeatable. Add in control of all three branches of government and control of elections and backing of global corporations and you've got invulnerable fascism.

7. Rather than all this whining and gnashing of teeth
about having to move to the right, how about getting strong, good candidates who can actually fight back hard and rough, when need be, and begin to rephrase the debate and the language to favor our ideals?
