Hyperbole aside, what is the current state of State/Church Separation?
We have some overt symoblic mixing of Church and State - prayers in Congress, Congressional chaplains, "under God" in the pledge. We have some religious symbols in public buildings in a few states. "Creationism" or "Creationism-Lite" is being taught in a handful of school districts around the country, and one county put some anti-evolution sticker on their textbooks.

I am unsure of the current state of the "faith based initiative" programs, I assume we have lots of tax money going to religious groups. Churches are exempt from taxes, but I was under the impression that any non-proft group, say an Secular Education Center, could get the same exact tax breaks. Is this correct?

I must be missing some?

1. Our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ does not like this question.
I have dispatched a group of brown-shirted pilgrims to visit your home tonight to show you the err or your ways.

2. If neotheocon Michael McConnell replaces Rehnquist, it's more bullshit
http://www.independentjudiciary.com/nominees/nominee.cfm?NomineeID=19

Michael McConnell will be brought up as a replacement for the ever-fading Rehnquist, who may live to swear in Bush again on false election results if he doesn't dirt nap it beforehand.

If McConnell gets in, it's some serious fucked up shit for abortion rights and the blurring of church and state.
