3. I'll second that...
Robert Greenwald's "Outfoxed" lays bare the "agenda journalism" of FauxNews.

I believe you can rent it now...

CRTC approves Fox News for Canada
Last Updated Thu, 18 Nov 2004 21:56:37 EST

OTTAWA - The conservative-leaning Fox News Channel will soon be coming to Canadian digital television channels.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approved an application Thursday to bring the Fox News Channel, one of the highest-rated news channels in the United States, onto Canadian digital airwaves.

The Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association (CCTA) applied to the broadcast regulator in April.

Canadians already have access to the main Fox network, but not the right-leaning, 24-hour news channel, with its trademarked slogan of "fair and balanced."

The Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) opposed the application, saying it would discourage foreign broadcasters from partnering with Canadian broadcasters.

10. Ewww...faaaccck...it's on Ch. 142 in Vancouver as well.
When did they slip that in? I have full digital, but really don't watch that much TV. Or rather, I'm just very selective.

This slipped in under my radar. Didn't even know it was on until I read this thread. Maybe it's time for a letter-writing campaign asking them to come up with a new "tier 4" or something, so people who actually want this, er, "programming", have to pay extra.

I pay for this service, and I consider this very offensive shit, like "The KKK Network" or something along those lines.

Still, it costs money to go Tier 3 digital, so not that many people have it.

I am in Calgary, middle of nowhere.

It is free just for a while. I think they do 60 free days and then go to a cost for watching.

I don't know when they snuck it in...must have been right before xmas.

12. Shaw Cable is based in Calgary and serves most of BC...
so I think we're getting the same service. If it is in fact as you say, ie. 60 days free, then one must order...that works just fine for me. There's something I find rather sneaky and sleazy just forcing this on me like it was some kind of "favour" ("new channels for free!!!)...it wasn't in the service contract I signed.

I find Faux News a sickening display of the worst America has to offer; I was aware the CRTC gave it the green light, but I'd like some choice in having this shit playing in my living room nonetheless...

Anyway, thanx for the info Brundle_Fly; I couldn't even watch it long enough to find out the info you just gave me. It's that bad; it doesn't even have a comedy element to it. (It's like lurking over at Free Republic...it's funny for about five minutes, then it's just dull, stupid people ad nausea...)

Murdoch obviously hasn't spent much time in Canada if he thinks we'll

And even then, the signal is often "suspect", like when CBC was covering the protests of Junior's visit to Canada last month, and the audio track suddenly went bad. Imagine that.....

26. Question for CANADIANS and EXPATS!!!
Sorta related...how much does Canadian cable cost? Do you carry HBO? How do your tiers work, and what do you get for your money?

Which is better up that way, cable or satellite?

I'm thinking about moving, and slowly acquiring as much info as I can!

Thanks in advance!

37. What do you pay, for the full monty, or for partial service?
I'm wondering if it will be a REAL luxury, or about the same onerous obligation as here?

We get the BBC and Celtic channel, and a number of WORLD type channels as well, and if you want to pay, you can get channels in everything from Laotian to Korean and then some. But I am just interested in a good dose of news, some HBO, and some films, and am curious as to how much my wallet would hurt for the pleasure!
