Question: Roemer wants to privatize social security and
Edited on Tue Dec-28-04 11:56 AM by texpatriot2004
Pelosi & Reid choose him? I understand this is not the only problem with Roemer. What can we do about this, anything? Can we let Pelosi and Reid know our take on their choice? Would it make any difference? Geez, with Dems like this, who needs Rethugs?

From Daily Kos Diary
DNC Chair Tim Roemer? the netroots reaction by blogswarm
Sun Dec 26th, 2004 at 13:35:31 PST

<snip>

Ever since CNN declared that both Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were backing Tim Roemer for DNC Chair the blogosphere has been working overtime to expose his positions on the issues.

It is true that Roemer will have zero credibility in the upcoming Social Security battle because he has already voted to privatize Social Securty. And yes, it is also true that the religious zealots are salivating over his anti-woman, pro-alley stance against choice. The only feather in his hat is that some believe his position on the 9/11 Commission will help Democrats on national security. Which is an interesting angle until you consider that the 9/11 Commission debunked the Al Queda/Saddam link and four months later 63% believed the link existed. So yes, he has national security credentials, but nobody listened to him and his ineffective communication may have cost us the election.

However, the greatest problem with Roemer is that he won't be able to unite Democrats around the DNC. If Roemer is elected it appears that there will be a mass exodus of volunteer and financial support. In the post-modern marketplace of progressive action, Roemer would be unable to compete with Howard Dean's Democracy for America or Simon Rosenberg's New Democrat Network. Don't believe me, see what others are saying.

1. Why are the Dem leaders so against
their base? The Repugs cater to their base and the Dems smack their base upside the head over and over again.

Reid, Pelosi et al are Corporatists first, Democrats second (if that.) It's not like they REALLY care about ordinary people.

2. What can we do to let these out-of-touch Dem leaders know
we oppose Roemer and those who think like Rethugs? Would it matter? I don't know how it works with the DNC? How did Pelosi get where she is? Can we boot her and Reid and Roemer? I have been watching Pelosi and she's been on thin ice with me for awhile.

3. ROEMER IS ANTI-CHOICE ALSO ......
Write your state's democratic party: I did in NC: I told them that if they voted for Roemer, that's the last of me re: any activity with NC Dems...

None. This issue is THE Democratic litmus test.

And if he cannot articulate WHY he no longer supports privatizing SS, I will also support him under NO CIRCUMSTACES.
