cost of war in Iraq vs. money to help tsunami vicitms
Money spent to kill 100,000+ innocent Iraqis : $147,281,000,000
Money sent to help millions of tsunami victims: $.......35,000,000

That's 4,208 times as much money to kill as to save.

3. Amen was to the original post.
Who gives a ---- what radical right wingers say? Especially those who claim to be religious. Would Christ give money to buy bullets or feed the needy?

I, for one, am sick of the anti-Christian right wing Christians.

6. well, when you put it that way it looks pretty bad, doesn't it?
but i'm waiting for the resounding "that's too much!" from the "Christian" RW pundits. oh wait, looks like they are already saying that, tsk, i'm too late. i guess it goes to show that logic, fact, humanity, and goodness are beyond these people. they are evil incarnate and will not stop until they are forcefully stopped.

reactionary conservatives = embodiment of uncomprimising evil

8. Not One Damn Dime Day -Jan 20, 2005
Not One Damn Dime Day -Jan 20, 2005

Since our religious leaders will not speak out against the war in
Iraq, since our political leaders don't have the moral courage to
oppose it, Inauguration Day, Thursday, January 20th, 2005 is "Not One Dime Day" in America.

On "Not One Dime Day" is for those who oppose what is happening in our name in Iraq can speak up with a 24-hour national boycott of all forms of consumer spending.

During "Not One Dime Day" please don't spend money. Not one dime for gasoline. Not one dime for necessities or for impulse purchases.  Not one dime for anything for 24 hours.

On "Not One Dime Day," please boycott Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target etc...

Please don't go to the mall or the local convenience store. Please don't buy any fast food (or any groceries at all for that matter).

For 24 hours, please do what you can to shut the retail economy down. The object is simple. Remind the people in power that the war in Iraq is immoral and illegal; that they are responsible for starting it and that it is their responsibility to stop it.

"Not One Dime Day" is to remind them, too, that they work for the people of the United States of America, not for the international
corporations and lobbyists who represent the corporations and funnel cash into American politics.

"Not One Dime Day" is about supporting the troops. The politicians put the troops in harm's way. Now 1,200 brave young Americans and (some estimate) 100,000 Iraqis have died. The politicians owe our troops a plan -- a way to come home.

There's no rally to attend. No marching to do. No left or right wing
agenda to rant about. On "Not One Dime Day"you take action by doing nothing.

You open your mouth by keeping your wallet closed.

For 24 hours, nothing gets spent, not one dime, to remind our
religious leaders and our politicians of their moral responsibility to end the war in Iraq and give America back to the people.

I wanted to make this a topic, but the board says I don't have enough posts to make a topic yet. So pass it on...

9. this is headline news on DM today...they must be reading DU
U.S. Pledges $35 Million in Relief Aid; 1/4200 Amount Spent in Iraq
Humanitarian groups have launched what is believed to be the largest relief effort in the world's history. Billions of dollars will be needed in the coming weeks.

While the Bush administration has pledged to play a major role in the relief effort, it is already coming under criticism for its handling of the crisis.

On Monday, the Bush administration pledged an initial $15 million for the effort. After a top UN official described the donation as "stingy", the US pledged another $20 million bringing the total offering to $35 million.

To put the figure in perspective, President Bush plans to spend between $30 and $40 million for his upcoming inauguration celebration.

And the amount pledged to victims of the tsunami is dwarfed by the Bush administration's war effort in Iraq.

The U.S. has spent an average of $9.5 million every hour on the war and occupation of Iraq. With a current price tag of $147 billion, the U.S. has spent n average of about $228 million a day in Iraq. In other words, the U.S. spends what it promised on the tsunami relief effort in less than four hours in Iraq.

10. Shameful
This is not my idea of moral values. Blatant hypocrisy on the part of the administration, to run a campaign on moral values and then send this tiny amount when people are DYING. More money can save lives. But why save Asians when we can give a tax break on capital gains. "Christian" people should put their money where their mouth is.
