Insurgent Ambush Kills 29 in Baghdad
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,142792,00.html

Iraq — Insurgents lured police to a house in west Baghdad with an anonymous tip about a rebel hideout and then set off explosives, killing at least 29 people and wounding 18 in the latest in a series of deadly strikes against Iraqi security forces, police said Wednesday.

The blast at the house was triggered as officers were about to enter late Tuesday, a local police official said. Ten neighboring houses collapsed from the blast and several residents were believed trapped underneath the rubble. Seven policemen were among the 29 dead.

The police official said the attack was "evidently an ambush" and that "massive amounts of explosives" were used. He said the explosion was apparently triggered by remote control.

The U.S. military said in a statement Wednesday that 1,700 to 1,800 pounds of explosives appeared to have been used in the attack. The statement added that American soldiers and Iraqi troops searched the rubble for survivors through the night and rescued one civilian. Brig. Gen. Jeffery Hammond, assistant commander of the 1st Cavalry Division that controls Baghdad, said the house that exploded was booby-trapped. "The insurgent has no respect for life and an insurgent is anti-Islam," he said.

1. OK... I agree it's good that American GI's were not among...

the dead. But aren't the Iraqi "security forces" kind of doing the US military's "dirty work"? Isn't this as much of a human tragedy as the mess tent bombing in Mosul ? Will it recieve comparable coverage? Do members of the "security forces" have any reasonable alternatives to acting as the Americans' "bomb sniffing dogs" in terms of food, money to feed there families, etc.?

Does Colonel Jeffrey Hammond know enough about the religion in the region to say, convincingly, that an " insurgent is anti-Islam."

Is there ANYTHING about the current policy that is not morally and ethically offensive?

I don't expect more than this from the current regime. But where the hell is congress? Doesn't anyone there have even an OPINION about this stuff? Is it just that opposition to this policy is not being reported?

Where are the other anti-warriors? Where's Howard Dean?

2. But..but..Boobya said, "Mission Accomplished".
The world's greatest military can't control a 3rd world nation. How long before some general tells us that it's the last gasp of the insurgents? Oh, I forgot, they've already done that....several times.
