What an Ill-Fated Year Ahead in Bush's America!
I really wish everyone at DU a very Happy New Year, despite all that is happening around us. Sadly, a reality check also due regarding what's ahead in Bush's America in 2005. And it ain't pretty.

I'm trying hard, but I can't find a single thing that will be positive in this country... or much of the world, as a result of Bush's second term. Maybe we all should consider the reality and then find a way to deal with it and make it better. This is not a time for ostriches, and "Happy New Year" just doesn't hack it this time.

Here's why:

"TVNL RINGS IN AN ILL-FATED NEW YEAR! 2005

It’s not a New Year like any other in memory. It’s not a New Year of renewed optimism and good cheer. It’s not a New Year with the usual and dreams and promises. It’s not a New Year to welcome with anticipation and joy. After all, it’s the year 2005 in George Bush’s America.

Until now, the New Year always promised something better. Until now, the mistakes of yesterday would be the lessons for tomorrow. Until now, the New Year was about retrospection and resolution and renewal. A new year was a fresh chance to get it right, and another try for the golden ring. But all that has changed, because it’s the year 2005 in George Bush’s America."

For TVNL's predictions for 2005:

1. A positive thing
It might seem kinda lame, but we don't have to worry about Dubya getting reelected. I'd say that's a bright spot, albeit a distant one.

6. I hate to burst your bubble
but what makes you think BushCo won't overturn term limits if it so desires? Or find someone even more diabolical to cheat into office?

2. A good article
and for sure we know what we can expect - more of the same, from the * admistration. What scares me is what BushCo has in the works that isn't as obvious......

3. we may not know 'what'....but
....we surely know it will be destructive to democracy, to peace, to the economy, to the environment, and to life in general as we knew it. On that happy note.....:-)
