The likelihood of the Repukes recalling Gregoire |
|
I did some research and it's a tough nut for the bastards to crack.
First,They would have to charge something that meets the criteria set out in statute, towhit:
Commission of some act or acts of malfeasance or misfeasance while in office, or who has violation of oath of office.
So charges of vote fraud won't cut it.
Second, the bar is pretty damn high to actually recall. For the governor's office they have 270 days to get enough signatures to add up to 25% of the total votes cast in the last election for the official being recalled. In this past election's certified results, a total of 2,810,058 votes were cast meaning the required number of signatures on a recall petition would be 702,515 within 270 days. Furthermore, should the petition be successful there is a straight up or down vote on recall and if the recall is successful, the Lt. Governor takes over who would be Brad Owen, the Democrat.
Personally, I hope they try for recall because it would be a devestating PR move.

The Dems could recycle all the SoreLoserman jokes. What could happen is rightwing talk radio spewing 'illegitimate' for a few days, and the FuxNewsChannel(and its clones: MS-RNC and CNN)devoting a few hours to how democracy has failed the citizens of the state of Washington.
