New RNC Chairman Puts Jeb In 08 Race

But last week, in a meeting with The Washington Times editorial board, Ken Mehlman, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee, put Jeb back in the race.

Responding to a question, Mehlman mentioned eight potential candidates for 2008: Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, Virginia Sen. George Allen, Colorado Gov. Bill Owens, Arizona Sen. John McCain, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, George Pataki, Rudy Giuliani - and Jeb Bush.

RNC spokesman Brian Jones insists Mehlman was just speculating about politicians who are being discussed in the media. But Mehlman is not a neutral commentator. He works for George Bush. If the President's brother were really out of the running, the RNC chairman would not mention him.

In fact, the Bushes have been thinking about Jeb's candidacy for years.

One of the main reasons Dick Cheney got a second term was to make sure there would not be an incumbent vice president with presidential ambitions in 2008.

11. There isn't hope for anyone else so you'll need a plan B.
I want the stuff that will help me to think that this is a good thing. Is it inhaled or injected?

2. "At least we change Presidents every 8 years"

Bullshit we do, especially if this ends up happening. What would this make us? Monarchy? Patriarchy? Oligarchy? Whatever. They're all a part of the same club who are REALLY running things.

3. Good
He has absolutely no chance of winning. Remember when the talking heads were throwing around the term "Clinton fatigue" during the 2000 election cycle? The US will have a serious case of Bush fatigue by the time 2008 rolls around.

8. That's what I thought this year
I didn't think George would have a chance of winning. Even if the election was stolen, I'm amazed that the election was even close enough to steal. If America didn't have "Bush fatigue" after all the shit that he gave us in his first 4 years, then I'm guessing Jeb will have a good chance of winning in 08.

9. Jeb has baggage 2
since people claim to have voted on moral issues this past time, isn't Jeb's family life a little to funky to win a national election? How will the evangelicals handled all the skeletons in his closet?

12. Baggage won't be reported.
It is too negative, and it has all been covered before.

4. I think the real reason to believe Jeb will run is...
...he did an interview with Larry King on election eve and King asked him twice "Will you be running for president in 2008" and he categorically denied it each time.

That is as close to a guarantee that he WILL run as we are going to get until it's officially announced.

Frist is carrying too much baggage. All of the people on DU and elsewhere who have said "I wouldn't want to sink to Karl Rove's level to defeat Karl Rove" would ABSOLUTELY sink to Karl Rove's level to defeat a Frist presidency. Ain't gonna happen. Cat Killer will not be our next president.

6. PNAC Member + Diebold Ally + American Stupidity = President Jeb
Unless we do nothing about BBV, take names and arrests and expose Bush connection, Jeb will go in. Count on it.

Not even the Bush family ever thought W could weasel his way into the White House. Old Jeb, the smarter one, is the one to REALLY worry about.

10. THAT'S IT!! Rove had to 86 Bernard Kerick to neuter Rudy Guiliani in
order to clear the path for Jebbie.

I can't bear the idea of 16 uninterrupted years of the BFEE. Maybe 24 if George P. reaches the age of 35 in 12 years.

13. This is scary
I have contemplated a lot of arguments on this site about going to the Green Party or another 3rd Party if the DNC/DLC keeps up their efforts to be Republican lite. But I will stand w/ the Dems against Jeb or Frist w/out a doubt - even if they put up Kerry again. The prospect of the next 4 years w/ the reckless policies is bad enough but, the thought of the continuation w/ Jeb makes me shudder. And the thought of Frist..... holy sh_t is he scary. I cannot imagine a world when he is the face for the US. (Of course I thought that about * 4 1/2 yrs ago.
