who is going to run for Governor in Florida in 2006 ?
i think it would be good for Democrats to get a minority or a woman in there statewide since Republicans have Mel Martinez in statewide office to make them appear more moderate or at least not bigots.

will Janet Reno run again ? how about Betty Castor ? Alex Penalas ?

also, who are Republicans likely to put up against Bill Nelson for Senate ? this is one of the seats Republicans have targeted and it's very important we hold on to it.

i think it's important that we start working on holding on to the Senate seat right now since we already know who the candidate is. hopefully with the organization we build up it will also help the Democratic candidate running for Governor.

1. Martinez is not a moderate, he is simply a do nothing...
...politician.

3. i don't mean he is moderate himself, i mean it makes the party overall
appear more inclusive. as the republican party is seen as a white man's party . but with people like martinez they appear to some as more moderate or inclusive without examining their policies.

5. Martinez is white, he just happens to be Spanish white...
....Listen the guy is a sleaze-ball and most Florida voters know this.

2. Daily Kos said Betty Castor
Don't have time to find the link, but it said that the Florida Democratic Party was trying to clear the field for Castor. Republicans will likely have a divisive primary.

7. The Florida voting is fixed. The Democrats could run God and
probably loose. I think we should concentrate on a state Constitutional amendment demading a paper trail. Try to fix the system because it's always going to go to the republicans unless we stop the vote fraud.

10. Amen, FloridaPat.
With their rigged machines, does it actually matter who runs?

13. Does Florida have early voting or allow absentee ballots?
California now allow voters to receive early paper ballots. This provides a recount trail, and allows supporters to work the campaign on election day.

18. That's cool. Yes, Florida has early voting, too.
But it still won't help if the machines are rigged. The vast majority of people vote on election day.

By the way, welcome to DU.

16. A Dem will never win
another statewide election in FL as long as those rigged voting machines are in place. Repukes only concern regarding vote fraud is how to further perfect it.

8. Castor only lost to Martinez by 1.5 % of the vote.
I think she is going to run for governor.

9. I don't think that Castor will run for Governor
She might, and I think people are trying to get her to, but I don't think she will.

Jim Davis (congressman from the Tampa area) is planning to run, I believe, as isScott Maddox, the Democratic state party chair. His mother is Cuban, so he can count as Hispanic. I don't know if Penelas will run, but he might.

12. I hope Reno has the good sense not to run.
She has no chance to win and just make the party look bad, IMO.

Castor ran a good Senate race and I was surprised she did not win. Especially after the nasty primary Martinez initiated turned off a lot of Republicans.

We need to win that office to straighten that state out.

Curious - Is Jeb Bush ineligible for another term?

14. JEB BUSH

Yes, Jeb is not allowed to run for another term for Governor of Florida.
It is term limited to 2 terms.

I think that Jeb will run for President in 2008.

I just wish that the voting gets straightened out in Florida. It is in a huge mess with the black box in alot of counties.

Otherwise, it would not matter who the dems run because it is rigged.

Just me thoughts.

:D :D :D

15. I wonder if we'll see more Jeb trips
like the current Tsunami tour over the next few years?

This could actually turn out good because Rove would be sort of obligated to work for him instead of for Frist, etc.
