Look, we're all going through the natual stages of grief...
and I believe that many of us are going to linger a while at "really pissed off". But I'm not going to let this failure of our representatives = a failure of the Democratic party. In fact, in light of what I see to be a mockery of justice... this NONelection... this bullshite elevation of the chimp TWICE... this liberal-minded Independent is determined to become a registered Democrat. More active rather than less. I'm not giving up and I'm not going Green. I hope that, after some reflection, you all are with me on this.

1. I know what I'm doing.

I'm throwing all the time, money and energy that I can into Democracy for America. All about grassroots organizing and getting the Dems back in ALL FIFTY states. I'm all about that.

And progressive Dems. Populist Dems. LIBERAL Dems who don't let the right paint them this way or that, who aren't afraid to stand up for liberal values and stand up to the mainstream right wing media.

DFA all the way for me now. I just set their page as my home page and gave a nice donation and it felt damn good.

4. The cowardice of the dem. senate/representatives
clinched it for me. I was waiting awhile to see if I was going to stay democrat or not. Today pushed me over the top. I'm now registered Green (after the upcoming school election feb 1).

6. Karl Rove thanks you for this post
We should take a lesson from the neocons and the rabid right. They didn't splinter off into third parties, they seized control of their party from WITHIN.

We're a hell of a lot smarter than them. Why can't we do the same thing?

Sure, you may have some success with third parties at the local and perhaps state level, but it's a third party will NOT win national offices, particularly the presidency. It's just not the way things are structured.

I'm not advocating we sell out out, but that we make them accountable to us. We have to make enough noise and DEMAND that they listen to us, not skulk away.

The people who are in control know didn't quit after the first few rounds. They continued to make noise and that's why they are in power today.

Doesn't mean Rove and his Neocons has won. To me, the Democratic party no longer shares the same beliefs that I do. That said, I will still probably vote democratic in the national offices, but will vote 3rd party in local/state elections.

14. That's an excellent strategy
I think we can find a way to hold true to our ideals and fight for a better way but still be practical at the same time.

worked my ass off from before the primaries through today and all I got was this lousy Kerry. Both of the Major parties need a good old fashioned butt kicking. From here on out I am loyal to noone. Call me an Anti-Bushie!

7. I'll hang around and watch
what develops, although, by now, I am a little on the jaded side and that may influence my decision. Gonzales, Faith based welfare doled out on the total and sheer arbitrary whims of George Bush,Social Security, abortion and above all, this senseless killing in Iraq--I am watching , but not hoping for much.

9. The Democrats can and WILL succeed, but they must listen to their
grassroots.

I'm glad to see that you see we represent you best. I'm a third gen yellow dog Dem who is loyal, but frustrated.

We on the left are facing the toughest opponentS we could ever have. I'd like to see us unite in defense of the country.

Once we have power again, we can faction out. But for the good of the country, we must prevail. That requires us to dropour petty differences. Let's take back congress in 2006, then let the firing squad round up again!

Welcome to DU! :toast:

10. I plead guilty for today
Tomorrow will be a new one, though. My optimism is never overcome by disappointment for more than a few hours or so. Whatever we do, dont run away to a false alternative.

15. what if the democratic party IS the false alternative?
and what if the republican party is the other false alternative? i truly believe we have lost democracy in this country but are given the opportunity to vote every couple of years for the sake of making appearances. and this election is blinding proof of it. it doesn't matter which party you belong to---the moneymakers rule the playground and they are going to do what they want to do.

the only difference is that they used to recognize that no matter how much they suck off the middle class, they would never kill off their working horse. now, they've gone completely mad.

11. The democratic party
showed their true colors today.Lots of great speeches and in the end they caved...except for one!
You cannot certify what you cannot verify! Simple as that!

But our senators voted yes to certify against all common sense. They sold out!
No more votes or money for them until they stand up for our values!!

...and yes,I'm pissed and I will take my energy and $ somewhere else!

13. Thank you!
Well, actually I've always voted Dem, and we don't register by party in IL--but all of this has renewed my commitment to be more active in local Dem politics, because I think that's where the possibility to make the biggest difference is. Coalitions with Greens and others on issues we agree about is a good way to go as well.
