The "real" reason NYTimes and FOX are dissing DU.....
It's not because everyone here is a "conspiracy theorist" as they insinuate in their limited coverage. It's because many here understand their propaganda bullshit and call them on it. They can't handle the truth. That's the bottom line.

So, they set out to nip a small, non-threatening website in the bud before too many people start to read and take notice. It's the same way they character assassinate certain individuals that might be perceived as a threat to the status quo. Why mention DU at all? Why not just ignore it? Because they fear the potential of DU...

1. DU is a better news source than the Corporate News
That's why.

They are threatened -- as they should be. They are the past -- DU and the Internet are the future.

19. It's very true - that's why LBN is always the first place I go
MSNBC or Fox or whatever may have a few dozen reporters trying to cover most of the planet, some in person, others by monitoring news services, newspapers, broadcast news, magazines & websites.

LBN has hundreds, maybe thousands of people on a busy day, actively searching out and then feeding in reports from DW, BBC, AFP, Reuters, Xinhua, the Yomiuri, the Age, the Times, Die Zeit, Le Monde, the Straits-Times and dozens and dozens more, all the time.

Sure, there's some chaff with the wheat - what Drudge is reporting, and the odd ladle of swill from NewsMax or the Washington Times, but anyone with common sense can dismiss that which merits dismissal.

It's the ultimate page of pages, and there's no way that conventional news organizations can compete.

3. They didn't succeed in nipping us in the bud
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 12:22 AM by Cronus Protagonist
Nowhere near it. They just blathered a load of obvious untruth, dimished themselves in the process and promoted DU to boot.

Proof of publications devoid of journalism.

That must irk them so.

4. Kentuck,
you should make a book with all your thoughts!

You hit it right on again. If they were truly interested in some weird internet stuff they would be looking at the right wing sites not DU. There was nothing really wrong with that post as I read it. It seemed like a question to me. Also, further down in the NYT article they say that sometimes the internet brings out much thought and discussion and that is what happened in that thread.

They don't like the fact that they, the msm, are getting questioned, they don't like that we know what isn't getting reported. It really ruins their little game.

6. I Agree -- And Yet They're Giving Us Publicity
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 12:29 AM by Tace
The MSM are definitely threatened by the internets. They are well aware that we are sucking dry their bottom line.

Heck, I don't pay for cable any more. I had it for 20 years. I don't buy newspapers, when I used to buy two or three each day. I simply read their stories online, but not by subscription.

On edit: dropped word.

16. Even if people are coming
to read these "conspiracy theories," they'll see that that's not what we're about. We may get some trolls, but also some intelligent people who can contribute to the discussion, and lurkers who will enjoy listening.

In a way, we should be honored. Bring it on.

15. My take. We're getting the "Moveon" treatment. They have successfully
demonized Moveon because of the Hitler ad that Moveon foolishly placed on their website. They can find lots of fodder to demonize DU. The same as they can with any other partisan message board if they choose to do so. But the "chose" to demonize DU.

17. I think it's great. People will come and read and learn...even if they
don't want to at first.

Bush and his evil minions will eventually classify it as a terrorist site anyway, so I think it's good the exposure comes early.

18. First, they ignore you
Then they ridicule you,
Then they fight you.
If you persevere, then you win.

Looks like we're dead center on step two. Persevere, and we're headed to step three, and probably in for a big fight. Persevere, and we'll win, just like the Democrats did in Washington.
