CBS, NBC, ABC news coverage of Presidential certification
The CBS evening news had no story about the events in Congress today - not the objection by Boxer and Tubbs Jones or even a mention that Bush had been certified as President.

NBC carried the story but it wasn't featured.

We get ABC at the same time as NBC and don't know if ABC carried the story or not. Does anyone know?

The last time there was an objection raised about the certification of the electoral votes was in 1877 but even the rarity of this event and the fact that it dealt with ensuring fair elections wasn't enough to make it the top story or, in the case of CBS, even worth mentioning.

2. it was as I expected
the lap-dogs would either Pooh-pooh it or ignore it...

Watched most of the "debate" in the House and Senate on C-span (flipped between the channels)

the Dem argument was mostly -- don't support the objection, but election reform is needed...

the repugs ignored the need for election reform and just flamed the objection with comments such as: (paraphrased)

"conspiracy theories", "waste of time", "objection to elections hurts our democracy", "..emboldens those who hate our freedoms...", "sends the wrong message to the rest of the world..."

repugs basically said "sit down and shut up"

so the objection is in the "record" and a footnote of Congressional trivia... Look for it in a few years as a Jeopardy question

3. Wake up America! First time since 1877! Houston, we have a problem.
This truly could be the wakeup call if people will listen.

4. ABC did do a brief story, with a short piece of tape. Hit usual points:
small group of Democrats; "claim" of irregularities; of course no danger to certification of election; only second time since 1877; now onto other news right after this commercial break. Though they DID show tape of Al Gore gaveling down the black Congressman from Florida in 2000, so I give them credit for that. (AND Michael Moore! If he hadn't done it in F9/11, that tape would never have seen the light of day.)

5. The only way to have gotten coverage was if most of the Dems stood up.
"All your bases are belong to us".

They have control of all branches of government and the MSM. To make the slightest mark we have to be unified - the Dems in house, in the Senate, the activists, the "statesmen" (Gore / Clinton), all have to be on the same page. I don't want to sound defeatist, but the odds are certainly not in our favor. This is going to be an uphill battle that will take years, unless, of course, the colapse comes. Given the state of our economy, the environment, and the oil reserves, that might come sooner than we expect.

However, we did win something yesterday. A minute victory, that is going to be totally worthless unless it's followed up with relentless pressure, but it was a victory nonetheless.

8. crash first, then the rest of the public will pile on
There's an economic crash about every 24 years or so and with the slide in the dollar and the huge deficit, we're due for one.

My thinking is that it will happen this spring but if not, definitely by spring of '06.

At that time, disillusionment with bushco will be total. People will be looking for any and all means to get rid of him.

Those who have paved the way for removal with questions of his basic legitimacy will be in the catbird seat. We just need to continue our work until it's time to tighten the noose.

6. I never expected the MSM to cover it
They are firmly entrenched in their little Neocon world and will ignore anything that doesn't fit their lazy little theories.

They did it when Jim Crow laws allowed racists to kill Blacks. Did you hear any complaints from the MSM when they were lynching Blacks? Not a word until the civil rights movement.

They did it during the Vietnam war. Oh yea they reported the war, a little more accurately than they do this Vietnam, I mean Iraq war, but they supported the Repugs, war mongers and Nixon.

But eventually they listened. If we keep this up, they will have to listen. There hasn't been a major social issue that the MSM hasn't ignored for as long as possible.

10. So, the events will show up in a future Michael Moore film....
And millions of people will say "I had no idea that happened".

I saw what the Black Caucus tried to do in 2001; C-SPAN carried it live. How many others caught that?
