Building the perfect Beast
So you want a new party and a new beginning. I suspect DU is probably the place where it stands it's best embryonic chance. Give the party a name, a platform and a charter. This is as grass rootsy as it gets. You just never know.

1. I think most of us would love for the Democratic Party to change
so that they really represent the will of the people, not corporations. Most of us here just want to see government start working for the people again. All people. Green Party may become the best option. Luckily we don't vote again soon, so there is plenty of time for the Dems to still win this. It's still their game to lose at this point IMO.

2. Unfortunately, after yesterday, I have lost all hope that
the Dem Party has the will to change to represent the people. It pains me to say that. They have lost already--hell, they have sold themselves for a bowl of pottage.

3. If I were to forge a new party...
I'd call it the New Progressive Party (The Progressive Party of the last century was one of the most successful of our third parties, running TR for President in 1912)

Our platform would be : people first, not corporations: supporting the Constitution: cooperation with all nations to build a better world.

People first would mean that government would be used to help all the people, not just the rich or powerful. Social Security would be strengthened, and taxes would be progressive, not regressive. One of the main goals would be to create new jobs via innovation-one being a call for cheap, renewable energy. Professional lobbyists would be banned, no more 'revolving door' between government and corporations, and elections would be fair and honestly reported. No one would be detained secretly and all would be given a speedy trial. Freedom of choice and freedom of (or from) religion would be strictly enforced, and the separation of church and state rigorously defended.

We would re-enter into treaties with the rest of the world, including signing onto the World Court, and would NEVER start another preemptive war.

4. I'm a life long Dem.
What is happening in the Democratic Party now just sickens me. The opposition Party? The majority of Dem politicos are corporate/Republican boot lickers. In most cases I can't tell the difference. Energy, action and hope are in a new beginning.
