political scientists please check in (local election issue) |

Hello DU! I live in a gop county in upstate ny. I live in a dem controlled city and would like to run for county legislature.
There is basically one local cable channel, plus all the cable channels offer ads for locals.
There are about a dozen big radio stations.
There is one daily newspaper and three weeklies.
There is one news web site and one npr station.
My question: The daily newspaper is gop controlled and makes my city into its whipping boy. I would rather not use this source as part of my campaign. How do I do this without offending the paper? How do I do boycott the paper while allowing people to take in my message?
My campaign centers around the rebirth of this city. My position is that my city already has enough critics, the last thing we should be doing is electing our critics to represent us.
What is your take DU?

1. I think it would be a huge mistake to alienate your local paper, |
|
but surely you can figure out a way to use the paper to your advantage if you give it some thought. Use it to talk up your city, point out the good points about your city rather than let the newspaper define your city in a negative light. Use it to reach out to voters in your area.
Sorry, I'm not a political scientist. You could probably locate some great books on the topic, though.
