Poll question: If Howard Dean does not get the DNC chair, what will you do? |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 11:15 PM by zulchzulu
It looks like some people want Dean as DNC chair at all costs while others want him to focus on DFA exclusively. Others support someone else and yet others don't really think it makes that much of a difference. And others...

2. I'd prefer Dean, but Rosenberg would be acceptable |
|
Either one of those two would cause me to renew my yearly DNC contribution.
If Roemer gets the nod, the DNC won't get a dime from me.
Anyone else, I'd wait and see.

7. I'm looking for someone who will change the way the party operates |
|
Someone who will bring the party into the 21st century and give power back to the grassroots.
The main thing I don't want is someone who will continue the status quo.
Ideology is an important, but ultimately secondary concern, for me in determining who should be DNC chair.

6. Wow....check out the paradox... |

Hey Ches, The poll is not "mean-spirited". It has some serious choices (I voted to continue working for DFA) and a couple silly ones to see if people still have a sense of humor.
Yes, I'm a "Kerry fan". I'm also a "Dean fan" too. It is in fact a possible thing.

13. who cares who gets the chair? They are all neoliberals |
|
They all look pretty much the same to me. Maybe some small differences. Just disregard this nonsense....
Concentrate on communicating a liberal perspective of where the country should be in the future, with respect to economics, and an idea of what America is all about. A LEFTIST perspective. The GOP is on the right. If you believe in the GOP's ideas, you should be working for the GOP.

Actually, I personally think not.

16. The Pary Chair RAISES MONEY |
|
That's it, that's what he does, he goes around and shakes hands. Hell I wouldn't mind Terry McCauliffe again, he left the party with a surplus. I don't agree with him on a lot of issues but that doesn't matter, he's not running for public office. Everybody glorifies this position and blamed McCauliffe for the 2002 and 2004 losses. It's not his fault, ITS THE CANDIDATES' fault. It's Max Cleland's fault that he lost, it's Carahan's fault that she lost, it's Mondale's fault that he lost and to a lesser extent it's Tom Daschle and Dick Gephardt's fault that they lost for not having a clear message, in particular one that is distinctly different from the Republican message. It's not the party chair's job to define the agenda. It's the party chair's job to promote the agenda as decided by the elected officials and to raise money to help that agenda.
That being said, Dean is a talented guy and has proven to be able to organize grassroots support that proved vital to the Kerry campaign, which is why I like him better than any of the others. But those who think that his becoming DNC chair is a way for him to further the agenda that he campaigned on in the democratic primary are sadly mistaken. As DNC chair he is required to promote the agenda that's decided by the elected leaders of the party.

As Ed Rendell said...you raise money and travel a lot...and like you said, you don't get to make policy decisions...that's not your job.

19. I'll just wait until Dean forms another party. |
|
Then I'll support that party wholeheartedly until the Democrats get tired of the party being split, and have to implant another spine in order to run over Dean's party. Then I'll probably be a Democrat again.
Rinse, repeat.
