Not spending money on the 20th

I've been hearing a lot about this via word of mouth here in Kentucky... But on the Internet I have come up dry... Has anyone else heard of this form of protest? Its premise is simple:

-Don't spend a single Penney on the 20th.

I think it would be pretty cool if enough people did this.

As far as I know. You can buy a jolly rancher or something. Those can be 5 cents in some parts of the country.
