To me, if Dean is elected chair of our party it will make-up for some of |
|
the hurt, disappointment and bitterness I STILL feel after the election. I still don't watch the news, etc. If it wasn't for DU, I'd be completely illiterate as to what is going on in the world.
I'm not even quite sure why I feel so strongly about Dean winning. I think it might be because it represents hope, maybe even a little excitement about politics again - which I have not felt since the recent fiasco (election) and I miss it.
What does Dean's election to the position of Chairman represents to other's here at DU?

1. Hope, definitely! Excitement too! |
|
If Dean gets the chair position, get ready to see this party cranked!

2. I Agree - We Need Someone With Spine And Courage |

Unlike many others, Dean did not wilt into the woodwork after the primaries.
Instead he focused positive energy into establishing DFA.
Seems like the right man for the job - anything to slow down the DLC will be worthwhile.

3. I already have found reasons for hope, so I don't look to Dean |
|
for that. If he gets elected, how I feel will be based on what he does and the results. I'm neutral.

6. The Joining Of Centrists (Dean) With Progressives (Grassroots) |
|
He seems to understand the need to build infrastructure locally.
He also seems to get the need for Dem. Party to participate nationwide.

11. Yes, Dean Is A Centrist Who Has Learned The Import Of Utilizing Local |
|
members, running national campaigns and respecting those with more Progressive ideas than his own.
Dean is NOT ideologically Progressive.
That is entirely consistent with EVERYTHING I've ever posted about Dean and his capacity to change the Democratic Party for the better.

10. I don't think you have a good dictionary or a clue about Dean |
|
you don't seem to understand Dean or the words progressive or populist.
Clue: Populist is not always progressive and Dean is not always centrist.

7. It represents the fact that at least some democrats have wised up |
|
Those who want to paint a new face on the same old rotting party structure, are going to go away one day. Dean winning chair is a sign that the party might be put back in the hands of the people who vote for it.

12. I wonder how many Dems |
|
out there who aren't real involved in politics even know who the current chairman is. Ask a bunch of Dems who don't pay much attention who Terry McAuliffe is and I'll be you'll get a blank stare.
I hope Dean gets the nod. Maybe he can do some good and bring some energy to the Democratic Party but in the grand scheme of things it probably won't matter too much to anyone other than political junkies.

13. I guess it means hope ... |

That the party can break out of the stupid, myopic politics-as-usual of the insiders.
