1. she claims to be an expert on marriage
and says she has published academic articles on the subject. Marriage is not everything.

3. She benefits from the old "she's not pretty, so she must be smart" myth...
She neglects to mention that her "academic" writing was done as a "scholar" at the American Enterprise Institute (another Scaife-funded organization)

5. I find it amazing that men feel a need to insult women based on appearance
Your point about American Enterprise is well taken. Why then, do you feel a need to rely on sexist banalities?

9. I did not CREATE those sexist banalities...
nor do I agree with them, but that does not mean that they do not exist.
You are correct; they ARE banalities.

12. why repeat them?
What she looks like has nothing to do with the fact she is a right wing mouthpiece for George Bush. The Klan didn't create racism either, but they perpetuate it.

15. I did not inculcate that myth into Gallagher...
but I bet you my car that she subscribes to it.
But go ahead and continue to blame me for being aware of the ugliness (and I'm not talking about the lack of physical beauty) and pathologies of our culture.
And I will give you my car, if you can point out where I ever said whether I personally found her to be "pretty" or "not pretty"

11. Christ!
There are people in this thread calling her bitch, skank, slut. I acknowledge the existence of a myth...I repeat...A MYTH...and I'm the bad man?
Fucking incredible.

13. I did not read those posts
Yours announced your prejudices in the subject line. I would suggest concentrating on ideas and politics rather than vulgarities.

14. No, your interpretation of it reveals your prejudices...
(or your desire to take offense)I said it was a MYTH. How much clearer can I be?

17. Here is my perception of the situation
Think about this. You (and hundreds of others on DU) are angry about the political views a woman articulates, but rather than focusing on that, you discuss her appearance. For some reason you feel a need to say she benefits from a stereotype about intelligence being diametrically opposed to beauty. For other posters, it's incessant prattling on about Laura Bush's rear end or Condoleezza rice's face. It is thoroughly offensive and entirely sexist. Women are not placed on this earth simply as objects of male desire. These sort of comments are no different than if someone where to make comments about Armstrong Williams or Colin Powell as basketball players or being particularly fond of watermelon or fried chicken. These are bigoted stereotypes.
As a woman, I find these comments entirely offensive. You are hardly alone is expressing them or even the worst, but I have decided to call people out when I see them. Now you may decide you do not care, that you will behave in a bigoted fashion and insult women anyway. What you cannot claim, however, is that the words are not offensive. I am telling you I find them so. Offense is in the perception, not in the intent alone. Fraternity boys dressing in black face may not intend to espouse racist ideas, but they nonetheless do so. That you do not see your words as sexist speaks to the extent to which such ideas pervade American society. You can either choose to contribute to bigotry and inequality or to think about how your words affect others. That is your choice.

they are one of many Scaife-funded neocon hack foundations

And that Danielle Crittendon bitch. They're both big traditional marriage promoters of the same mold.

7. How many times was she divorced and remarried?
That's what I want to know.

For that paid-off right-wing slut to lecture us on marriage is like the KKK talking about racial tolerance.
