Should Democrats get creative with the media? Examples...
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 10:07 PM by Sparkly
From the AP:
For their thoughts, Reid and Pelosi drew fire from the Republican National Committee reminiscent of last year's campaign.

Their "obstructionist remarks today were full of pessimism and personal attacks but lacked any vision for winning the war on terror or preserving Social Security for future generations," said RNC spokesman Brian Jones.

I am so sick of hearing that tired old complaint! They LOVE to say "Democrats criticize but offer no alternative solutions," no matter how many times Democrats actually DO offer alternative solutions. What would Democrats have to lose in holding a press conference / publicity stunt? For example:

- Write Democrats' alternative plans (proposals, transcripts, bills, etc.) in huge, 1st-grade reader type script and hand-deliver them to Republicans. Offer to help with the big words (or accompany with a dictionary).

- Provide audiotapes (like "books on tape") reading the Democrats' proposals, and make a show of the new release, pointing out that the new tapes will spare Republicans the trouble of actually reading.

- Show up with 100 pairs of reading glasses for Congressional Republicans and express hope that they'll now be able to read Democrats' policy proposals. (Afterwards donate them to an appropriate charity.)

- Bring a megaphone to the next session and use it to deliver floor speeches.

What have they got to lose? Would it backfire (Republicans claiming they're making fun of adult illiteracy or deafness, for example?) What are your ideas?

2. Haha, great image
John Kerry, completely deadpan, just talking into a megaphone like nothings out of the ordinary.

3. Maybe one day they could show up with milk and cookies
when the Republicans get their shorts in a wad over Democrats' opposition to Gonzales, for example.

9. I like that -- maybe they could do musical parodies, too
They could sing about fiscal responsibility, preserving Social Security, using diplomacy, etc...

("This debt is your debt, this debt is our debt...")

5. They Should Pass out Ziplock Baggies Full of SHIT!
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 10:20 PM by Vinnie From Indy
That's what they should pass out. Large, bulging, warm to the touch translucent, ziplocked bags of SHIT. They should pass them out and tell the media that this is what BushCo. is trying to sell America with Iraq and Social Security reform. Hell, even us middle 'Murkins can understand that.

6. I believe our response to them should be through sacrasm
such as the reading glasses of megaphone.

I cringe everytime I hear someone from or on behalf of the Dems responding defensively to ridiculous, and misleading statements made against them/us. Stop treating their lies & propaganda as the truth.
We need to speak our truth & treat them as the idiots that they are when they misrepresent our statements & policies.

7. Dems hold a press conference at a pigpen.
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 10:22 PM by Liberty Belle
With an enormous, bright-colored banner behind that reads:

DEMOCRATS PLAN:
GET RID OF CORPORATE PIGS
AT THE CONGRESSIONAL FEEDING TROUGH
www.OUTPIGS.com

Have some staffers wearing pig snouts, etc.

Of course the DLC would have to cut its umbilical cord from the corporate donors first, which will never happen.

10. They could start by using Special Orders in the House
like the Repukes did continuously during the Clinton administration.

Here's an example:
Dem 1: Do the Repukes REALLY want to starve Grandma and make her eat dogfood?
Dem 2: Why, yes they DO want that. Furthermore, the Repukes want to take your children by force of law and put them into the Big Government Program, No Child Left Behind.
Dem 1: Not only do the Repubs want to harm your Grandma and your children with the Big Government, now the Big Government wants your grown children as cannon fodder for their never-ending personal wars.
Dem 2: Well, that's t e r r i b l e. Do the Repubs REALLY want to pollute your environment?
Dem 1 : Why, yes they do. The Repubs are working very, very hard to poison you and your family. Your little children will not escape the invisible harm of toxic pollution that the Repubs are delivering to YOUR neighborhood.

Been there, done that. Remember Newt? He (along with am radio) was instrumental in the Repub takeover. Newt never let truth, fair-play or the welfare of the People stand in His way. Seems that Newt had his hand deep in the Attack Iraq plan too. When are the Dems going to respond in kind? Not with lies, but with non-stop attacks against Bush's evil a g e n d a.

14. How about "50's day" where they dress like it's the 1950's
on a day when social program cuts are up for vote, or affirmative action, equal opportunity, Roe v. Wade, etc. are under threat?

(I know I'm getting silly.)

17. I LOVE all of these
This is exactly the type of attention-grabbing media stuff they need to do (honestly, not kidding, really think so).

Forget about the possibility of back-firing: Nobody's listening at all now -- what could be worse than that??

p.s. maybe we should take up a collection to send you to DC to sell your plan.

18. One word...Sparklers!
Everyone loves fireworks. When making a speech, ignite sparklers for each hand and work them into a hand gesture routine for attention purposes. A small sparkler lasts approx. 1 min. With this knowledge, speeches can be timed to end upon burn out. This would be particularly helpful in getting the timing and attention in morning '1 minute' speeches.
Just a thought...I mean, who doesn't like sparklers?
Exactly..
