The Hill: Dean a Sure Thing |
|
Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean yesterday took a major step toward securing the chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee by grabbing the endorsement of powerful state Democratic leaders.
After the Association of State Democratic Chairmen (ASDC) formally backed Dean, several operatives for rival campaigns said that the former governor’s dominant showing among the key DNC constituency could mean that the race, to be decided on Feb. 12, is all but over.

5. Frankly, I'd rather he be a good party organizer |
|
Since when has being a "good man" been important? JFK cheated on his wife repeatedly. LBJ was one of the meanest sonofabitches around. Bill Clinton's moral failings are pretty obvious.
The problem is, we aren't appointing a saint here. We're are appointing someone to rebuilt our party apparatus. And the only evidence we have to go on with respect to Howard Dean is his presidential campaign, which is generally regarded as one of the worst run campaigns, from an organizational standpoint, in recent memory. Sure, he raised more money than any other candidate, but his ground game sucked. He was badly outorganized by Kerry and even Edwards, who had only a fraction of the money Dean had to spend.

9. You've got to be kidding? The Dean Campaign changed elections for EVER. |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-01-05 12:55 PM by mzmolly
Additionally the PAC Dean formed "Democracy For America" had great success funding and helping candidates get elected to office all over this nation. He has proven he has EXACTLY what it takes to chair the party.
Further, Dean wasn't "out organized" he was eliminated by the media who feared him. This was also accomplished with the help of ALL the other candidates who pledged to work together to assist in taking him down.

since elective office and high level bureaucratic/management jobs have seemed to be the province of the dregs of the ethical thermometer and the moral detritus of society (to osterize a metaphor or two,) it begins to appear as though the only way to reverse the course of this latter day Roman empire is to install people of honor and value. More of the same crap, though they be wondrous organizers or magical political hacks is just not going to save us and our vaunted political system.
The only thing that can be done is to find those who actually believe in and practice the the values they pretend to. Up until now the really good people have been run over by the degenerates whose only claim to fame is overweening ambition and narrow-mindedness.
Dean is not only a good man, but a man with good, sound ideas and an ability to motivate people and bring out the best in them. Couple that with the apparent fact that he doesn't seem to have been such an insider as to have been irretrievably stained by the system and has the ability to attract those who are not totally hidebound to work with him and maybe we have a good beginning. Anything besides total incompetence would beat the " * lite" appeasers we have now. We are sure to lose even more ground if we follow the same old shit way we've been going: merely tweaking the system ain't gonna fix it!
Rip the lid off and let some sunshine in!

We need Mr. Dean. :) I'm glad he's getting more support. After all this if he doesn't get the DNC chair then I'l be very shocked. The only other person I liked for the job was Mr. Webb.

Lotta money spent....and we walk away from victory just because the other guy picks on us?
To me, this vote is pure outrage.

|
(from your link)
Dean’s capture of the DNC chair would be an important victory for the new wave of grass-roots activists who re-energized the party’s base in last year’s election. Dean’s candidacy has been opposed by the Democratic Party establishment and according to the Los Angeles Times, “unease about a Dean chairmanship is widespread among congressional leaders and many governors. But almost none of those grumbling privately have expressed their concerns publicly — in part, some believe, because they fear crossing the ardent grass-roots, Internet-activist community still backing Dean.”

I'll still be waiting for the other shoe to drop, while crossing my fingers that it doesn't before the 12th. I'd rather be cynical and win, than too optimistic and have it snatched away at the last minute. I hope Dean doesn't count his chickens too soon and just keeps doing what he's been doing thus far.

and the media is going to work hard to ensure that Dean gets sent home to Vermont for good.
We must continue to support him and to reach out to those who supported the candidates that have recently dropped out and endorsed Dean (Leland and Webb) and those who just dropped out (Frost).
Fight for Dean!
