What should red state Dems Senators and Reps do? |
|
Alright, after looking at the Gonzales vote, with the exception of Lieberman and one of the HI senators, every other Dem that voted FOR Gonzeles was from a RED state.
How should these senators vote? Why are they voting for republican policies? A yes on Gonzales was a inexcusable vote. Good for the Dems that voted against him....and several red state Dems did too. For once I'm somewhat impressed. A large number of Dems voted against him.

1. imho, they need to act like dems, but be able to explain what they did |
|
in a way that regular people can understand. Frame the issues in a favorable way, instead of letting the repubs define the language and the debate.

"We are not nazis or terrorists- we are the good guys."
"Torture is wrong. Its somthing terrorists do, not Americans."
"It is against my spiritual and moral beliefs to support torture."
"Its wrong to dress people up in witch-craft hoods and put their faces in each-others genitals. What is so hard to understand about that?"
Etc etc- its not as hard to frame this issue as the excuse-making wing of the DEMS would have us believe.

My point exactly. I don't buy the excuse that you have to vote like a repub to get elected in a red state. You just have to speak for yourself instead of letting the repubs speak for you.

Can you imagine if BOTH parties had Senators that voted their conscious? That voted for what is right and just in the world, regardless of race or religion? (ah...John Lennon quote..imagine all the people living life in peace...)
After all, we are fighting for economic dominance in Iraq, not just political (as the powers-that-be would have us believe.) They don't want "real democracy". They want fairly tidy and westernized responsible "Arabs" to be "yes men."
And torture? Hit 'em hard who don't agree. Fire up the rednecks! Forget that "they" are people. Label as many as possible as terrorists. Scare as many people as possible! Get everybody's blood boiling...

2. I bet they were all Red State Sens with a seat up in 2006 |
|
right. I bet every one of those Red State Dem seats are up for 2006. Am I right? This is partly how the GOP grinds these people down. Evan Bayh just got re-elected, his seat is 6 years out now. He has a spine now. To his credit he had more spine than these guys even before his seat was up, but less so than he has now.

3. Show some consistency & moral clarity- swing-voters appreciate that. |
|
Repubs aint gonna go DEM-ever.
But if its the swing voters who happened to go Repub that we are trying to impress, we can convince a good number of them that torture is not somthing "the good guys" do.
Its pretty simple and not hard to defend: "I oppose torture-its not what the good guys do."
