Or is this merely the smokescreen as he goes after Iran? It also bumps a lot of other investigations off the radar screen.

1. Oh, I think he's hoping to create a last ditch feeding frenzy
for the investing class just before the crash. If it doesn't happen, well o bla di.

However, if it doesn't go through, it'll still provide an adequate smoke screen for lying us into a war against Iran.

We're going to lose this one rather badly. I hope you all know that.

2. Rethugs want to kill the "white whale" - the finest program the Dems
ever devised. NPR had a story about this on Friday. Its strictly a power thing with them - destroying the creme de la creme of the "New Deal.

3. Totally ideology
It's all about FDR and all about the "evil" New Deal and all about destroying the "Safety Net" which destroys our rugged self reliance, and all about the "Mommy State."

Heck - it's going to cost the worker-retiree more, and it's going push the national debt to unheard levels.

All ideology.

4. That crossed my mind to.
Give us the "smokescreen" while something more sinister gets worked on....like possibly Iran. I'm glad someone else is as crazy as me.

5. Yup. But he'd rather just totally repeal Social Security all together.

They are only trying the "reform" thing because it's easier, politically, to water down a popular program rather than to destroy it outright.

8. Give it time . . .
If he gets his way, the corporate sector will have it's toehold in SS and it's only a matter of time before they rip it apart until it no longer exists.

Rethug ideology: Who cares about a bunch of old people? They're poor anyway.

7. I think it's a smokescreen . . .
but, I don't think it's related to Iran.

I recently read that until Daddy Bush was prez, all excess SS funds were invested in negotiable government securities. George I stopped that. So, it's very possible, with the current budget deficit, the system will have major problems in 2018 when it needs to rely on the excess funds - spent by George II.

If I'm right in my understanding, I think it's a way to cover his own fuck up.

11. Finally, someone besides me has figured it out.
Well, they had to give little Georgie something to do while they are busy plotting their next move. After all, can't have in the oval office twittling his thumbs, he might just get in their way, so they give him something to keep him occupied and make him think he has some importance. They know, as well we all know SS is not going anywhere. A most perfect smokescreen.

Does anyone really think Cheyney and the rest of his gang would let this doofus run the most powerful country in the world. My goodness, he didn't even know what the 1965 Civil Rights Voting Act was. Bush is nothing but a joke and they all know it.

12. Repugnants have wanted to do away with SS for decades.
It may have the added benefit of distracting from other issues but they cant stand SS. If Bush could, he would eliminate the entire program.

13. Wants to undo SS
and if you can give a lot of Wall Street types some commissions while you do, so much better.
