If * makes the tax cuts permanent can whoever is president |
|
in 2009 reverse them?
how would that happen? does congress have to do it? or does it have to remain in effect for a period of time?
(didn't the *-head reverse some of clinton's last-minute laws?)
basically what i'm asking here is: can we repair the damage that is going to be done?

1. there's no such thing as permanent |
|
in legislation. Any congress can change previous laws.
Some of Clinton's executive orders were undone, but that's a different thing altogether. Tax law is legislated, and if congress changes it, the President would have to be damned sure of not being overridden to veto it.

the congress could overturn them and he could veto the bill. But he'd need more support than he currently has to sustain a veto.
Fun fact: W. has never vetoed a bill.

6. the current "wealthy-fare" tax cuts |
|
have a sunset attached to them -- what bush* means by making the tax cuts permanent is to stop the sun from setting
I guess he can always talk to God and tell him to stop the sun

Nothing is permanent. If Dems get Congress and in enough numbers, they can overturn it and bring back the tax of the 90's but slightly modified.

|
You aren't under the illusion that we will actually have 'free' elections in '08 are you?
