Ugly Thought On Gannongate: Is He The Plaime Fall Guy?
Think about it: once he's been exposed, it would be so, SO easy to dump the entire Plaime fiasco on his shoulders and then bury it once and for all -- then Rove could also claim that they've "weeded out" all the bad apples in the press corps, leaving the Bush Sheeple contentedly happy that Bush has policed himself.

When in fact he'd basically be laundering his hands and the hands of everyone else involved in treason, onto the shoulders of a closeted head case who "duped" all those poor trusting Repunks without "knowing" he was a gay hooker.

Worse has been done with less, y'know.

1. It is definitely possible.
I have thought of this myself, when I heard he was subpoenae'd in the Plame case.

You've got something there, Joe. Nothing is too ugly for these folks.

2. It still doesn't get to the question of who told *him* about Plame.
But I'm no hot-shot journalist or nuthin'. :eyes:

7. Exactly!
It isn't a crime for Gannon to know the information. It is a crime for someone to give it to him. Offering him up as a fall guy does nothing to answer the million dollar question...who gave him the Plame information?

6. Especially since he sure seemed to fold up and run for cover in a hurry.

Big blustery bag-o-wind, wasn't he - Mr. Tough-guy, "'Talon' News"? OBVIOUSLY he couldn't take the heat and skeedaddled straight out of the kitchen. Didn't put up any fight at all. Maybe he's hoping if he disappears quickly, the whole story will.

What's yer hurry, Jeffie?

4. Wonder if we should start asking those nice, "God-fearing"
"family values" republi-CONS if they've heard the one about "by thy friends art thou known."

ABSOLUTELY worse has been done with less.

Something to keep in mind from another DU thread:
You want to start a writing campaign to oust Britt Hume?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=1580284#1580768

Remember the scene in, I think, "Jurassic Park 2" in which one of the big blustery guys was in the woods, and one of those little bitty "yapping dog"-type dinosaurs came up to him. He sneered at it and kicked it out of the way. But it came back. He sneered and scared it off again. But then, it came back with a buddy. He still sneered, but you could tell he didn't care for this terribly much. He scared them off - but not very far off. Then they came back. With more buddies. Now he's not sneering anymore. He's backing away. They advance. More of their buddies suddenly appear, and they advance, too. He REALLY doesn't like this now, and backs away until he trips and falls. All of a sudden, they're on him like sharks on a piece of raw meat. And suddenly, he's a goner.

Think about it. That's what the "buckhead" types did to Dan Rather. Who the hell is Brit Hume that he's entitled to be immune?

5. Except it IS the job of the WH to SCREEN and CREDENTIAL the press corps.
And ESPECIALLY bear the responsibility for a reporter with NO news organization vouching for his employment.

8. Except This IS The Bush White House
Instead of THE BUCK STOPS HERE on their desk, they have an arrow with a sign reading "CASHIER."

Next to the one with the arrow pointing towards the Oval Office saying "I'M WITH STUPID," of course.

21. Either they're incompetent in their screening,
which raises the security issue for Mr. I-Must-Be-Protected-From-the-People-At-All-Cost, or they're in cahoots with a propagandist.

Pass the popcorn.

20. He interviewed Joe Wilson
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 05:41 PM by DoYouEverWonder
and asked him about his wife getting him the Niger job. It was about the same time that her ID was 'leaked'.

Gannon (or whatever his name is) is like the 'missing link'. He is the dot that connects them all.

12. Q: What stories is this distracting from?
We've got a VERY controversial budget, opposed even by some Republicans.
Same with the SS piratization dickering.
We've got contested/incomplete elections in Iraq.
There's Harry Reid going after Bush's jugular.

They controlled the timing of this story. What are they trying to distract from?
I am not worried about any Plame ties becaase those kind of substantial things will come out in time.
I really think this could be a bait and switch.

14. They Didn't Really Start This
This started with bloggers from DailyKos wondering who the heck Gannon was and who the heck Talon News is.

Besides, Bush is getting pounded on Social Security but praised (falsely, but still) for the Israel/Palestine truce, so I don't think they started it.

What I AM afraid of, however, is what they'll do now that the story's out. THAT is what freaks me.

19. He suddenly quit
because just yesterday it was discovered that he is also the host of a few sexually oriented websites. Something about male escorts and the military.

15. Ask the average man on the street and they'd say...

"Plaime who?"

That's last month's news. Only concerned citizens care about that ancient history stuff, and concerned citizens are getting harder and harder to find.

17. On the contrary. Who told Gannon? He's a male prostitute and
the information allegedly came from the White House. So, what do White House insiders and Jeff Gannon have in common? What is the connection? That's the logical line of questioning.

18. I don't see how he could be the fall guy--he's the receiver of the info
not the person who leaked it. It came from very high up; this piece refers to "one by two by six": two top WH officials called (at least) six journalists (using the term loosely, if that includes Novak and Gannon) and revealed Plame's name and occupation. And those two heard it from someone higher up.

So the source is a vengeful person with inside info on CIA operations--hmmmm, wonder who that could be?

22. Exactly
The issue isn't who received the information. We already know that. It's who was handing it out.
