Good Cops & Bad in the Courtship of Hill Democrats (Reid)
NPR.org, February 9, 2005 · President Bush and first lady Laura Bush plan to do much more entertaining at the White House now that they've settled into a second and final term. But they may want to keep a closer eye on what their fellow Republicans are up to next time they invite Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid over for dinner.

Reid and fellow Senate Democrat Christopher Dodd went to the White House with their wives Monday evening to dine with the Bushes. The soiree had been planned for some time, but the timing proved a tad awkward.

Even as the bipartisan bunch gathered at the table of the man who promised to be "a uniter, not a divider," the Republican National Committee was at that same hour sending quite another message via e-mail to 1 million journalists, activists and party loyalists around the nation.

Under the title "Reid All About It: Who Is Harry Reid?" the RNC message labeled the Senate minority leader "Reid: Chief Democrat Obstructionist." The lengthy document went on to detail Reid's "liberal" voting record, his "extreme" environmental record, and the features of his Washington residence at the Ritz-Carlton in Georgetown (the e-mail deemed this "the crown jewel of upscale condominiums").

GOVERNOR GUINN APPOINTS CYNTHIA REID TO STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION

CARSON CITY – Gov. Kenny Guinn today announced the appointment of Cynthia M. Reid of Henderson to the Nevada State Board of Education, District 4. She replaces John Hawk, who resigned on Jan. 21.

“For many years, Cynthia Reid has been one of the state’s leading educators,” Gov. Guinn said. “She has a very clear understanding of the challenges facing Nevada education, and what it will take for our state to meet these challenges. She will bring a reasoned voice with great practical experience to the State Board of Education. I believe she will make an excellent addition to the board.”

Reid, 40, is an adjunct instructor at the Community College of Southern Nevada. Previously, she taught English at Chaparral High School in Las Vegas and was a social worker at Child Haven in Las Vegas. She received her bachelor of arts degree in English from Brigham Young University and her master’s degree in Instructional and Curricular Studies from UNLV.

“I’ve always been passionate about education, and I am grateful to Gov. Guinn for this appointment,” Reid said. “I am looking forward to serving our public education system.”

The Board of Education consists of 10 members elected by the registered voters within the districts described in Nevada Statute. Each member of the State Board must be a resident of the district from which that member is elected. If a vacancy occurs, the Governor shall appoint a member to fill the vacancy. The appointee must be a resident of the district where the vacancy occurs.

2. Okay, my NV means Napa Valley not Nevada
so I'm not familiar with Cynthia. I assume she is related to our erstwhile Senate minority leader?

3. I think Reid's fighting back is a great opportunity

to highlight Bush's hypocrisy, and deflate his much inflated "uniter" image.

4. yep, and I think he's got to be ongoing and steady about it, relentless ..
Cynthia could be a daughter or a daughter in law, Reid is a mormon and has family in Hendersen.
