Want to know the TRUE reasons behind the SS/Privatization BushPush?
NPR and PRI had 2 really good interviews/commentaries over the last few days that REALLY gets to the truth of this giant BS campaign by * on SS/Privatization, and yes, they ARE two separate issues.

Tuesday's Talk of the Nation had M.I.T. Professor of Economics Jonathan Gruber who gave about as simple, and straight forward an explanation of the SS/Privatization issue that I've yet heard. The other guests are interesting too, But, Gruber is most important. (link below)

Next, PRI's Marketplace had Former Clinton Admin. Labor Secretary Robert Reich who gave a Great Commentary on the "The Demographic Bulge" and how * is lying about all this.

It's pay-as-you-go services for German retirees; private accounts for Great Britain's elderly -- and retirement in Chile is fully privatized. We look at what the United States can learn about social security from other nations.

Guests:

Jonathan Gruber, Professor of Economics at MIT; co-editor, Social Security Programs and Retirement around the World

Reinhold Schnabel, visiting fellow, National Bureau of Economic Research

José Piñera, former labor and social security minister in Chile; designed Chile's current privatized system (under Gen. Pinochet)

PRI's Marketplace
Commentary: The Demographic Bulge

1. Reich is good
Once I saw him leave his opponent speechless. He ground the Regressive's points down with simplicity, civility and good argument. It was a pleasure to behold. I wish they send him out on the talking heads rounds and give Biden the hook.

3. I hope you listen to the audio
It's short and worth it.

You should also search the "Marketplace" website for his recent commentaries too. Just about everything he has said on this show have been very clear and razor sharp.:hippie:

5. Marketplace often kicks serious ass
I haven't had a chance to hear it much lately, but I've always been able to count on them to look past the bullshit and tell it like it is. I think they can do that because the wingnuts don't go so ballistic when it's couched as hard business news, hence it doesn't draw quite so much fire from the usual gang of idiots.

Or maybe the idiots just don't understand all the big words they use.

9. NO marketplace! If people want to have 401-K's on their own...so be it.
But SS needs to stay essentially as-is...with a minor "cap" adjustment for those earning above 90K/yr.

11. Pure and Simple . . .
The Rethugs main goal it to drain the treasury! They have voiced their disdain for social programs for decades. Rethugs are a heartless bunch of liars.

12. Did you hear Sen. Barbara Boxer on "NPR's Fresh Air" yesterday?
She has a leaked WH memo from January 3,2005 that says that this is their best chance, after 60 years of waiting, to get rid of the Social Security. :grr:
<http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4493675>

She also has a Report from a Right-wing "Think tank" from 1983, that points to papers written by Russian Revolutionary Vlad Lennon, on how to destroy Capitalism, and how Rove/Bush are implementing that plan.

These people SUCK! :grr:

14. No Up2Late . . .
I have sort of given up on NPR (National PROPAGANDA radio). I think I need to reconsider. Seems like NPR is not a total loss.

Anyone who is surprised by the draining of the treasury angle has not been paying attention. This has been a Rethug idea as far back as I can remember, and I am no spring chicken. Now, they actually think they can pull it off. :grr:

Time to take to the streets . . . . .
