UNTIL I GET AN ANSWER, g**%%##damnit!!! WHY cant' our side get it together? Why can't we have even the semblance of a strategy? Why can't we read from the same playbook? Why can't we fight these SOB's like it matters?
It should be so easy. Every Dem who appears on a show should "brand" * as an "unpopular" President or a President who "only cares about the rich". The examples are there in spades to prove it. His new, horrible poll numbers are just waiting to be exploited. The public agrees with this fool about NOTHING. Yet our side still treats him as if he is a good natured cousin with slightly misguided views who essentially wants the same thing we want. Well, :puke: , :puke: , and :puke: to that!!!
WHY CAN'T WE AT LEAST TRY TO SHOW THIS IDIOT FOR WHAT HE IS???? I really don't get it. Are our leaders bought off of scared or both?`

1. I don't have an answer. Maybe their roles |
|
will unfold in the next few weeks now that they have a DNC chair and don't have to concern themselves about that. I don't see it being easy at all because of the brilliance of Rove and the way he's insulated his party and the clowns within. But I have to have faith that it's doable.

2. We hope this is what we'll get now that we have new leadership. |
|
We have a team in place that says it is committed to this. We should know real soon what we'll get. I hope for the best at this point. There should be no more excuses.

4. Sometimes I think they are saying more then the media is willing to show |
|
One of the problems with Dem Senators getting there message out is that they were not shown much on cable news shows. They were on C-Span but not on the nightly shows.

The Heritage Foundation has one in house, ready at a moment's notice.
This is a serious obstacle for us.

I don't get it either...I remember my Dad (an old FDR Union Democrat) expressing disgust with the younger Dem leaders saying " There ARE no Democrats anymore!)..I don't think a character like Bush could even have been elected then...and if he HAD..the "old guard" would have blasted him to Hell!

10. That question will be answered soon. Things should change. |
|
We couldn't do this in the past, in my opinion, because the Democrats were a full-tilt corporatist party relying on corporate money. This was balanced by the liberal entertainment donors. Hence, we had Lieberman/Daschle (corporatists) and whomever wanted to be liberal (usually out of integrity and intellectual honesty).
Daschle was a conciliator. Terry M was charged with raising funds, which he did quite well. Both realities meant no ass-kicking, fire breathing, assault on * and company.
Now it should become a new ball game soon. Reid let the left run with Boxer's Rebellion and the increasing portion of Democrats voting against shrub. Then he started enforcing discipline on Social Security and got 100% commitment. He's working with Pelosi. Now Dean comes along, works out a deal with Reid and Pelosi on mission and spokes people. Within three weeks of the Inaugural, we have a new structure, new faces, and new fire in the party.
At this rate, we'll be doing much better much sooner. It will take Reid a couple of smack downs to let Lieberman and the pussy's know that they should not cross him. After that, it's all smack-down all the time.
GIVE 'EM HELL HARRY & HOWARD

|
Though I don't know how well he'll hold the team together on Social Security, he has done a fine job of holding the caucus together so far.
We need an echo chamber though, and we need everyone on the same talking points day after day after day.

That's the echo chamber. The RW already has a cult hard at work doing this with all of the above.
I'm very hopeful it'll happen.

|
That's the number one problem. the "stink tankers" working at CNN, MSNBC, and whatever that other one is purposefully try to book weak Dems; David Brock as much as said so in "The Republican Noise Machine."
I hope to see Dean work on this.

We need to get strong Dems on those shows. I remember during the election, people said that we have no control over who goes on these programs. But if we got EVERYONE on the same page it wouldn't matter who went on.

|
The proselytizing press gets a talking point, their grunts fresh out of the Heriage Foundation calls the booking agent that's always at the ready, and they get their best guys on.
The Democrats get whoever is available at that moment. It can change, and I think Howard and Harry can smack some sense into our DC contingent!

26. I think we are at the learning stage: we learn how to combat propaganda |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 03:47 PM by applegrove
So we have to do this for a while, get good at the ebb and flow of it. Sharpen our minds and our hearts (cause fighting propaganda involves fighting 'feelings' the double speak promotes as much as the ideas).
The election was a loss. People went into shock & anger (some went into denial and are looking for a miracle way to overturn the election). Everyone is in different phases of loss. And once you accept the awful situation your country is in ... well you have to develop tools within yourself to learn how to fight the monsters effectively (while still maintaining your humanity). So now would be the time to learn those skills (if you are over the shock and have reached the acceptance part). And you also have to learn how to apply those skills to your team.
A Prime Minister of Canada, Jean Chretien, once said: "when a car gets stuck in the snow you don't push it in one go. You surround it and you get together and you start to rock the car. Back and forth & lightly at first. You all get into the rhythm. Back and forth and back and forth ... till you have finally built up enough momentum to push the car out and over the obstacle - in one final shove".
Same thing with fighting the neocons and propaganda machines. :grouphug:

Leave it to the Prime Minister of Canada to use a great metaphor about what else? SNOW!!! Of course, snow seems very exotic to me here in California. Good point though. Now the Dems just need to SURROUND the problem from all angles, and keep ROCKING!:)

28. That Prime Minister in particular is verbally incapable of talking |
|
in a clear sentence - but like many aphasiacs never met his match in terms of a "visual understanding of the world". And of course visual is how propaganda works and you have to fight fire with fire (though the visuals come from an honest place in the case of an aphasiac since they are human beings and not manipulators or warped by fear neocons or structurally predatory corporations). Nobody would be able to see through propaganda than someone who never looks at the world through simply 'words' to begin with.
No mistake either that Winston Churchill was dyslexic & depressive. There is something in people who are not exactly like everybody else that can give them an exceptionally good compass (Churchill knew language well but nobody mixed it with vision like he did - eh?). It is also part of the reason that Bush is so dangerous (because he is a lite version and in the hands of political and corporate sophisticates who channel through him - since Bush is so immature and knows so little of himself and thus the world). No surprise too that in this TV age it seems you have to be dyslexic, son of an alcoholic, or an actor to get elected. We no longer elect leaders for their leadership skills. The appearance of is more important.
We have to rely on 'the compass people' in times like this.

Everyone believes their rhetoric just because they say it so often, even though it's all bullshit. Why wouldn't they believe us if we play the same way? After all, what we say is actually true.
