Did the Democratic Party do enough to fight back against the Republican Party when it began to grow its infrasture in the early 1950s and 1960s? It seems as if the Democratic Party could have exposed the Republican Party for what it was back when it began to build itself. It appears that the Democratic Party could have point out the links between the people who ran for office and the extreme right wing. For example Ronald Reagan endorsed Barry Goldwater, who himself supported segregation. It seems the Democrats could have done more.
