A Plea for Calm, Reflection, Patience, and Perspective |
|
This post is not going to be a ABB post. Neither will it be "desert the Democrats if my candidate doesn't win it all" post. Those kind of posts are born from an intense love and passion for politics which is very admirable to see in a country where apathy is growing by leaps and bounds. I applaud your passion, your commitment to your cause, and your heartfelt feelings. I will not try to dissuade you.
I just want to make a plea for calm reflection. Allow yourself time to calm down before you decide how you'll vote in the future if your candidate loses. Keep this election in perspective. This election is literally about life and death. There are over 500 American servicemen and servicewomen, and thousands of Iraqis that would be alive today had just 500 votes in Florida, out of over 100 million nationwide, had swung in a different direction. Think about the 3000 lives lost during 9/11. Think about the offshoring of millions of jobs in IT and mfg. And, if that's not enough, look into the eyes of young American teen and think that your vote, or non-vote, may cost him or her their life.
So, get out there and work hard for your candidate. This primary season is going to be a long, long battle, and no candidate has it sown up. I just ask that you put everything into perspective once it's all said and done.
To quote the first presidential candidate that I ever voted for, "Keep hope alive!" "Keep hope alive!"

I reflect for my job. And I think this post is a worthwhile reminder that fighting is good, and then getting over your ego identification with one candidate or another is better so the real enemy can be beaten like a red-headed stepchild.
Provocation is fun. For a minute or two. But beating Bush will provide pleasure for a lifetime.
