Gannon owes past taxes - I want to know who paid him?
And for WHAT? Can't someone find that out?

Discredited reporter owes back taxes
Ex-Delawarean didn't pay $20,700 over three years
By ESTEBAN PARRA / The News Journal
02/12/2005

The former Wilmington resident who gained notoriety asking softball questions at White House press conferences has an outstanding tax bill from the state of Delaware.

James D. Guckert, who reported under the pseudonym Jeff Gannon, failed to pay Delaware more than $20,700 in personal state income tax from 1991 through 1994, according to documents filed in Superior Court in Wilmington.

State Division of Revenue Director Patrick Carter said the assessment has not yet been satisfied.

"When it rains, it pours," Guckert said Friday from his Washington home. He would not comment further.

According to court records, Guckert owed $9,484 in taxes; $7,697.69 in fines and $3,560.71 in interest.

The judgment, which was filed Oct. 18, 1996, said interest would continue to accrue at a rate of 1 percent a month on the unpaid balance, and the penalty would accrue at 0.5 percent on the tax.

1. Good question
I asked that yesterday too....

but there doesn't seem to be any legal way to discover where the income was derived.....

4. Strange that we still don't know who his employer was for these years
Surely this shouldn't be that hard to track down. There are so many unanswered questions about this guy.

5. I doubt you'll ever find out.

By and large, the issue of your income's source is considered to be a private matter between you and the government.

6. Olbermann quoted Eberle as saying he didn't know how
Jeff/Jim supported himself. Jim /Jeff was on record when he applied for the congreesional pass as receiving only a stipend, although he made some vague remarks about his compensation going up since he started at Talon. KO's report seemed mostly to be pulled from a Times article.
I have been wondering about this myself. How does one find out these things?

7. A private investigator can find these things out.
Anyone on here a PI? I was thinking about paying for one of those "Detective" sites but I don't want to be disappointed if I can't get any good information.

I had a PI investigate a woman who was suing me once and he found out that the woman was on welfare and even gave me her Medicaid number. She obviously did not have a job so W2 forms were not an issue.

8. Note that the $9484.00 is only for STATE taxes.
That seems to be a lot of money for State taxes only. What would someone's income have to be to owe that much in State taxes?

is this where the coverup starts to unravel? I agree, we need to find out where the income came from.

9. But that's about salary from ten years ago.... what means of
support has he had for the last ten years?
was it all from whoring, or was he on anyone's payroll?
the govt should be retroactively investigating who they let in, if only to discover the extent of the security breach.

11. Yes, 2diagnosis, there IS such a thing as a tax on whoring
Edited on Tue Feb-22-05 01:12 PM by rocknation
and on income derived from ANY illegal activity. It's an actual law passed during the Prohibition/gangster era. It's what led to the fall of Al Capone--he was jailed for tax evasion, not for his activities as a gangster per se.
