Pat Buchanan- "Homosexuality Is Immoral, Unnatural, And Wrong" |
|
He said homosexuality was part of the "culture of death."
I can't believe some folks embraced him because he trashed the neocons on Meet The Press...
He is 100x worse than Bush and the neocons...

13. Pat is a Catholic, and that is the teaching of the Church. |
|
He's arguing his position, and he has every right to do that. I don't think the US laws should be based upon ANY religion, and I don't think they are. I'm also a Catholic, and though I believe the same as Pat, I am not being forced to do homosextual acts, have an abortion, or pull the lever in an execution! I don't understand why Catholics, or any other religion insists that everybody else adopt their beliefs! If you don't agree with an issue, just don't do it!

16. While I disagree w/ him 100% on that statement, I don't believe he is 100x |
|
worse than Bush Co. and the NeoCons. Pat Buchanan actually on occasion has some good things to say (he's more Libertarian than a Republican) and there is hardly anyone that could be considered worse than Bush and the PNAC folks, so saying that Buchanan is 100x worse is an exaggeration. But a statement like that showes his homophobia and lack of understanding of a persons sexual orientation. I'm sure when he was growing up, people in his household talked that way and he's never known different. It's the same way for going back 50+ years ago when people regularly grew up hearing that Blacks were inferior and less capable due to their skin color. It's all hatred and ignorance taught from hate and ignorance. Hopefully someday, people will stop teaching this ignorance and hate and break the cycle.

40. Buchanan is NOT a libertarian |
|
If you plot him on the scale, he is a conservative authoritarian (which is the polar opposite of a libertarian): he believes in strong governmental control of private morality, and strong personal freedom when it comes to economic issues.
The only things that differentiate him from neoconservatives are (1) his economic populism and (2) his isolationist foreign policy.

She said something like, "Well, don't be too hard on Pat. I'm sure the speech sounded better in the original German."

Why do people watch him on TV? Why do they give any thought to what he says?
He once worked for a president--Nixon, wasn't it? Like a whole LEGION of others, he has run for president on a small party ticket, and lost. He's written some books.
That's it. That's all. Why does anyone care what this man says or thinks???

he's a homophobe, and all the rest but he helps sow division in the republican party between the paleocons (aka true conservative), and the neocons, and therefore is useful. divide and conquer and all.
his take on foreign policy, i.e. anti-interventionist, i agree with a lot, but most everything he spews is bull.

38. I don't think any of us here really embrace Buchanan as 'one of us' |
|
But I am very pleased when he goes public with his doubts about Bush. It shows dissention in the Republican ranks, and not just with the older, more moderate conservatives. Buchanan is part of the fundie movement in the republican party, and his statements show even some of the fundies, who have been the most ardent bush supporters, are starting to have some doubts.
It's also a serverly shocking sign of the times when I start thinking Buchanan is making more sense than the republicans in office, and it makes for a good starting point for political converstations. Try it some time, tell someone who knows your political leanings, "I'm seriously disturbed that Pat Buchanan makes more sense than the president"
