At 9, He's Out Stumping for President's Social Security Plan
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 10:04 PM by Steve_DeShazer
WASHINGTON, Feb. 25 - The battle over Social Security has been joined by an unusual lobbyist, a 9-year-old from Texas who has agreed to travel supporting President Bush's proposal.

The boy, Noah McCullough, made a splash with his encyclopedic command of presidential history, earning five appearances on the "Tonight" show and some unusual experiences in the presidential campaign last year. He beat Howard Dean in a trivia contest at the Democratic National Convention and wrote for his local newspaper about his trip to see the inauguration.

"He's very patriotic and very Republican," said Noah's mother, Donna McCullough, a former teacher and self-described Democrat. "It's the way he was born."

In a sign of how far groups go to carry their message on Social Security, Progress for America has signed up Noah, a fourth grader, as a volunteer spokesman. He starts on spring break from James Williams Elementary School in Katy, Tex.

Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 09:50 PM by quinnox
His parents are probably typical right wingers that indoctrinated their kid early.

Reminds me of C-span callers who say they are "lifelong Democrats" but "support Bush one thousand percent" Yea, right

28. Bush must be getting desperate
On selling his plan. :eyes: A little kid? C'mon now. What does he know about Social Security? Is he for the private accounts? :eyes: If his parents were real democrats I highly doubt they'd be falling all over Bush. Unless they were brainwashed and turned republican and using this to try to help Bush. I think it's really pathetic. It's great the kid knows stuff but c'mon.

29. In that case
My parents are both republican and I was born from them. Does that make me born republican? But wait. I'm a democrat so screw it.

5. He may be very patriotic...
... and very Republican, but he's not that good at math, apparently.

Hope he doesn't grow up with the label, "the kid who killed Social Security."

about Iliana (sp?) Wekler (sp?). She began Kids for Kerry. I thought she did great. I loved when she said Cheney deserved a time-out! LOL.

32. Thanks to both of you for the name..
I googled with that info and found this..

SNIP~
TFK: What inspired you to start 'Kids for Kerry?'
Ilana Wexler: Last summer I went on a five-month trip with my family to Central America and Europe during the time of the war and every person we met was very friendly but of course asked where we were from and we said we were from the United States and they’d go, “Oh, of course, we know where that is! But what is this whole war about? We don’t get it. And we think the President could be doing a better job handling it.” And I knew what they meant. I knew I had to do something about this because this country was very unsafe, something could have happened to it. And people are just looking up to me kind of like, get out there, do something!

Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 09:55 PM by SharonAnn
That will be on top of the money he's "saving" in his private retirement account.

Oh, and since the "inter-generational" bond is broken. They won't be paying for any of his schooling either so he'll have to pay for all that. Elementary school, high school, college, etc.

Somehow, I don't think he's going to come out too well on all this.

17. Birth Tax / Child Tax
Damned right. He'll be paying his taxes to pay interest on his hero's expensive, budget-busting tax-cutting wars for the rest of his life.

Maybe he'll find a new career as a White House reporter.

Mom's a Democrat? Yeah, right.

11. My 14 yr old son has encyclopediac knowledge of history
and was a repub when I was one, and now cannot stand chimpy. How about we send him out with one of our senators - and he is good looking too! And he went to a wacko Christian school for 3 years, so he can argue the Bible with all of them, since his photogenic memory allows him to remember everything.

All of my family friends say he will be running for President someday. I say, "God forbid."

to buy into the crap that Bush and his minions are selling about this Social Security crap. What kind of idiots are going to sit and listen to a 9-year old tell them how to invest thier life savings??? DUH??

16. I hope is parents are teaching him how to SAVE and not get
taken in by those credit cards pushed on him by all those companies that support Repuglicans! OH, and I hope he never has to bankrupt because those companies also have pushed GOP tightening on that aspect of debt. Of course, he better be healthy, too, because he probably won't have healthcare for very long....if he has a job with healthcare, he'll probably be downsided, off-shored, or fired because he's getting too old (expensive)

20. my son wrote a poem about war this fall, i put it on the board
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 10:18 PM by seabeyond
and another conservative forum took that poem and made all kinds of ugly comments. such as child abuse, i wrote it and put sons name on it, how dare i do this to son

i didnt know boy was writing poem, i know he is concerned about all this and followed election and bush and war closely. as i said in another post, not something i can stop him from doing. has a need to hear, so he can understand and resolve within, not to spin out of control

anyway my point. it was really sad to read poem on that site and hear what they said about son and well me i dont care. this poem was his first, and hasnt done it since, but was important for him to do at that time

19. he was awesome i watched him, and he was cute as pie
9 years old, i have a 9 year old. when i listened to the boys i thought wow how can they teach boy non truth or deny truth anyway. he is very godd at sliding past events in history like alleged break in for nixon. he speaks like a republican, bestowing on bush grandness.

but the kid is articulate and smart and cute

interesting his mom is democrat. i can believe it, and i can believe that is the way he is born. i have a son like this only in a liberal sense. i did not condition him. i did not create this interest for him. he does this on his own. even in frustration he cannot keep himself from it. he has to know what is up

anyway., he is a kid, felt the need to share my take. wont be taking the kid or mom down. he is a boy to be proud of, and hopefully he will open his eyes as he grow older, maybe not. maybe with all his smarts he will be a repug dems can work with. oh he wants to be resident in 2032?

22. i would also add, if he came to a school my kids were in
and went into school and spoke his one sided adulation of bush and republicans i would be the first parent to speak to principle and tell him my kid is not going to participate in an environment, academic environment, where only one sided is promoted. that is cult like

Didn't Jesus accuse the hypocritical Pharasees of his day that they knew the letter of the law but not he spirit?

I could recite historical facts when I was a kid too. I loved history, but reciting historical facts doesn't mean you understand the context of the events you recite. Parrots can do just as much as this 9 year old.
