STOP The USA Next Right Wing Hate Ads - Please sign this Petition
Edited on Sun Feb-27-05 09:20 AM by Jon8503
From: Noreen Nielsen who is the newest member of the communications team at Democracy for America.

We all remember the Swift Boat ads of 2004, and guess what, they're up to it again—this time declaring war on the AARP and their opposition to President Bush's Social Security plan. On Monday, the extreme right-wing lobbying organization, USA Next, posted an online ad featuring a photo of an American soldier being crossed out next to an image of two men in tuxedos kissing with a check mark and the ad copy reading "The Real Agenda of the AARP." (see ad right)

This type of deceptive, bigoted propaganda should not—and will not—be tolerated, which is why Democracy for America has started a petition to put an end to it. This petition, which has already gathered tens of thousands of signatures, will be delivered to every television station that aired the Swift Boat ads in 2004, as well as any station that is planning on airing these dishonest ads in 2005. Join us in our efforts to put an end to these smear campaigns by signing the petition:

http://bsd.democracyforamerica.com/page/petition/stopusanext

The President's plan to privatize Social Security is not only fiscally irresponsible, but also socially irresponsible. This Democratic achievement has played a vital role in the security of Americans and continues to do so today, providing economic security for 47 million grandparents, parents, and children nationwide, as well as crucial disability and survivor insurance for workers and their families. Please help us protect this system and put an end to these hate-inspired smear tactics.

I signed it and sent it to my gf. Once I go to my UU church, I'll spread the word. I hope such ignorance stops. If this keeps up, we'll invade nations that have gays.

4. AARP needs to grow some gonads...
and sue these hate groups for slander. It's malicious and done deliberately to harm their reputation because they no longer tow the party line as they did with the medicare changes.

6. Suing won't work.
AARP is a political organization, and as such the bar for slander is so high that it effectively can't be reached.

30. Surely to God there is some threshhold, some limits on political ads.
I just cannot believe misrepresentation and/or false ads are acceptable. I haven't researched the issue but, surely there are some form of statutory or common limits on such egregious freakin' behavior.

31. No much limit on political speech.
It is political speech that is the core intent of the first amendment. The founding fathers believed that it would be better to trust to the wisdom of the people in separating truth from BS than to have the government placing limits. In the long run, they are right, but the short run can be a pain at times.

7. Done and done. But...
the painful truth is that most of the country is not ready for gay marriage... more specifically, for gay WEDDINGS styled ( rather unimaginatively, I might add) on the hetero model. This fact, and this issue are being milked for all they're worth worth by the forces of darkness. ( Lemme have a chance to use a little religious imagery, folks, it's fun!)

When 90% of the benefits of marriage can be had via domestic partnership, why insist on pushing (*at this time*)the easily lampoonable, and thereby immensely exploitable "marriage" to the forefront of the "progressive' agenda?

10. How the HELL do you stop hate by signing a frigging "petition"?????
Jesus, just when I think conservatives have reduced us all to cartoons, here comes another liberal that proves their image of us isn't a cartoon but a sad, sad fact.

How do you stop these ads? You FUCKING MARCH on the stations that broadcast them, you ATTACK the stations sponsors, you go to their rallies and get in their faces and force them back under the rocks where they crawled from. It's time to FIGHT for AMERICA instead of rolling over for these devils from hell.

11. I'm sorry, but I've got a husband, a part-time job, two kids & three dogs
And I do not have the time to "FUCKING MARCH" on stations that broadcast these ads. I do have time, however, to sign the petition. Did you? I guess not, given your angry reaction. That's too bad, because hundreds of thousands of people adding their names to petitions like this could actually do some good.

24. Oh, please, please Mr. Republican ...
don't take my Constitutional freedoms away. I am sure if we sit down and talk about why you feel you must force your religions on me, and discuss how I can improve my life, then you won't have to use fear and intimidation to get your way. Oh, please, please, Mr. Republican I am sure that if we sit down and hold hands and sing then we can come to an agreement and you won't have to use your thugs to shut down our elections; if we just share in the joys of life you won't have to call us traitors. Oh, please, please, Mr. Republican, please turn around so I can kiss your big ol' round ass so you won't kick mine.

26. Well I sent them this message - I believe we have to fight also
In the statement section I entered this. I'm also going to send the petition around to my ever growing email list!

We MUST boycott and we MUST picket otherwise the average Joe will have no idea what is going on.

"I consider it reprehensible for a company to advertise on any media outlet that promotes political deceit. I have no problem boycotting these advertisers because they do not deserve my business. I also have no problem gathering up groups to picket such socially ignorant companies. I am copying this message and sending it around to my email list. So when your advertisers wonder why their business is suddenly being targeted we can show them precisely why."

And to those of you who want to complain about this petition:

Some of us in this country are struggling to keep our heads above water and it is IMPOSSIBLE to drop everything and head out on a road trip to DC to protest. What about those of us who are taking care of sick parents, who have children, who go to school, who work multiple jobs, who have spent years building some semblance of a good life? You can't expect them to sacrifice all of that ('sorry cancer ridden dying mother but i have to go march in dc, so you'll just have to lie here in your own filth and starve to death because certian people look down on me for having a life to worry about') to appease you, just because you were lucky enough in the 60's to be able to do that.

Signing this petition is all I can do, and I did it. If you don't like it thats to bad.

These USA Next guys are worse than pond scum. Take a look at the NY Times article about them (which they posted on their website!!). Jarvis, the head sleazeball, says he is "proud to be equated with the Swift Boat guys".

28. done, plus my comment in the space provided:
This is reprehensible. The partisan, hate filled fake issue mongering of the press is destroying this nation. America used to mean integrity, but the Right Wing's hijacking of reality, calling their intolerance "morality", is beyond disgusting. It is treasonous.

Stop pushing the treason.
Stop publishing the lies.
Stop putting your greed for money and power above all else.

Open your eyes.
Stop blindfolding ours.

Hope this petition helps.
