Roy Moore (potential AL gov candidate) attacks Vietnam vets
and everyone else he can think of...

Moore writes of 'sinister enemies' in book

snip>
The former Alabama Supreme Court chief justice, defender of Ten Commandments monuments and onetime amateur boxer punches through bout after bout, with God always in his corner, in an autobiography being released this week.

In "So Help Me God," Moore names a long list of adversaries he has had to overcome: fellow cadets at West Point who hazed the country boy with the Southern accent, the drug-ridden and undisciplined military police he commanded in Vietnam, Etowah County judges who denied him a living as a lawyer, the "inquisition" of Alabama's Judicial Inquiry Commission, most judges in general, criminal defense lawyers, homosexuals, the gambling lobby and, constantly, the American Civil Liberties Union.
...
In Vietnam, Moore commanded a company of military police guarding a storage facility in Da Nang. Drug use and insubordination were widespread, he said.

At other bases "perimeter defense often suffered as soldiers high on drugs failed to keep a vigilant watch on the enemy. Viet Cong infiltrators could explode ammunitions supplies and escape without detection," Moore asserts.

Nicknamed "Captain America," by the troops, Moore says he administered so many disciplinary charges that "I became a marked man and received several threats."

2. Paranoid schizophrenia, anyone?
Seriously, this guy is a walking billboard for the religious zealotry/mental illness debate.

Is his religious fundamentalism actually the expression of a mental illness?

6. No way! You really did that?
Where were you and did you get arrested? I think this man is a total raving lunatic. I know that we've got some Xtian fundamentalists here in GA and way too many 10 Commandments yard signs but you poor folks over there in Alabama have one of the most insane and scary wingnuts ever to walk the earth.

4. Good thing Moore isn't...
... a twin. Don't think the world could handle two of him....

Interesting bit about the county judges who "denied him a living as a lawyer." Maybe he wasn't any good at it.

Or, maybe, there were strawberries involved....

5. Re Vietnam: If Moore was the asshole then that he is now ...
I'm surprised one or more of the drugged-up MPs in his command did not frag him.

9. They probably needed to do drugs to tolerate "Captain America."
Without the drugs, they might well have fragged him.

8. At least he showed up for duty in Vietnam, unlike Bush, who tucked tail
and ran to a bar stateside, then to an after-hours place to snort coke.

Please let this guy run for Prezdint in '08 is all I can say. :P

16. He was probably like Doug Niedermeyer (Animal House)
His unit probably wanted to kill him, but were better people than that.
