Make your reservations NOW for NH and Iowa '07-'08 |
|
the field looks like it will be crowded for both sides
Those hotel rooms will go fast
That is,if you're planning to volunteer?

1. well if I'm going to go to Iowa to volunteer for a candidate |
|
I'm sure they could arrange within the campaign of whoever I would support (and I don't have a candidate yet) homes of supporters or floors of school auditoriums or something like that for out-of-state volunteers to sleep on. I think it is a bit too early to be booking hotel rooms when we really don't know who the candidates are or what the field will look like.

2. Actually, it's not early! |

In Manchester, several of the larger hotels are booked four years ahead of time by the television networks. CBS always locks up the Wayfarer Hotel (the NY Times operates out of there as well) and ABC sets up camp at the Bedford Village Inn (where they have the oh-so-photogenic fireplaces). NBC used to take over the Raddisson Center of NH, but last year, that hotel hosted a gaggle of smaller media outlets, including a number of talk radio types. CNN opened a temporary studio in a textile mill-turned-office building down the block from the Kerry and Dean HQs, but I have no idea where the crew spent the night.
The supporters couch approach is obviously the cheapest thing to do, but if you plan on staying in Manchester or Concord, be advised that most campaigns have more volunteers than couches. Last year, all of the major campaigns (Kerry, Dean, Lieberman, Clark, Edwards) ran into this problem.

3. it's pretty empty until you get into winter 2007 |
|
and candidates visit for a long time before then with small groups of people.
for those who just want to meet the candidates i recommend going between early 2007 and fall of 2007. get their autographs and pics taken with ALL of them. one of them will be president and their autograph will be worth a lot when they become president. it will be worth a lot when they become the nominee.
so get autographs from the republican candidates also and sell the autograph of the one who becomes the nominee on ebay and you will make some money.
