Neo-Republican watch: Sen. Ben Nelson
Nebraskans had better hold onto their wallets when this Democrat speaks! Supports Bush's Social (in)Security plan! Supported the GOP bankruptcy law. It's Democrats like these that make me :puke:

His record:

1. Nelson was on The Daily Show the other night and he didn't
sound like he was supporting all of the repugs plans. Of course, he was trying really hard to be "reasonable." Said the Dems needed to support where they could but stand up to things that could not be tolerated (paraphrasing here). Wonder what his baseline is for all the issues?

I thought he was one of the good guys. Damn. Just what we need...to have to fight the repugs is an exhausting job but to have to rein in our own guys is silly. Somebody get the word to the guy, either stand up for Democratic principles or get out of the way, there is too much work to do without having to fool with shilly shallying limp wrists not up to the job.

2. Yesterday ol' Ben was riding around with DUHbya in his limo!
No lie! Nelson is one senator who has been targeted by the Bushies to vote for the S.S. bill.

3. Damn, damn, double damn. What is the matter with these guys?
Were they not in the cool kids club in high school and they will fall for anything as long it lets them pretend they are one of the in crowd? Can't imagine that Nelson is too stupid not to see that he is being used. Maybe he just doesn't care as long as he gets that ride in the limo. Something to tell his grandkids when he has to explain why there won't be an economic safety net for their old age and why they are paying for a huge deficit. Granddad riding with the King Chimpy will explain it all.

4. Nelson represents a state that went overwhelmingly for Bush/Cheney
It's not at all surprising that he leans to the right from time to time. If he didn't he would be out of a job.

5. well if he supports this it better be with a caveat
that a tax on the very rich will be used to pay for it and get us out of the social security "crisis". I bet most Nebraskans would go for that. I assume he must be supporting this because:
a) Bush has promised to ease up on agriculture susidies? or
b) Some other carot Nelson wants or
c) He got a poll that said people wanted this (I doubt it)

I think it must be a.

6. Not surprised
Ben Nelson is our senator and he has been paid off. As soon as I heard bush had appointed mike johanns Secretary of Ag, I said Ben just got paid for all his votes against us. The word here is the repubs are courting Ben so the dems are treating him with kid gloves. We have advised the dems we will again donate to them when the dems in congress start acting like dems. Yes it is sad!

8. well, Nebraskans put him in office, so I guess it's their problem?
have you ever been to Nebraska? Spent time there?

Nelson is a conservative Democrat representing a (very) conservative state.

So... what's your point? Do you have an alternative? What it it you're trying to accomplish with this thread?

10. Well, I attended the University of Nebraska, at Lincoln
for my Freshman and Sophomore year. I believe that the good people of Nebraska, including their representatives WILL serve their constituents. Therefore, if * promised something that he won't deliver on, the Nebraska Senator will do a 180 on his support.
IMO, they're conservative but not stupid in the Midwest.

12. actually, Nelson has NOT said he supported Bush's SS plan
he said that he would be willing to consider it - not a bad position to take when you're a Democratic Senator in a state that went 66-38 for the Republican candidate.

I'm pretty sure Nelson (and possibly Hagel, too) will come down against Bush's plan - like you said, the people of Nebraska may be conservative, but they're not stupid.

9. You really should read a paper before you post.
Ben Nelson hasn't said anything to the effect that he supports Bush on Social Security. He's been stauncher on it than some other Senate Dems thus far.

14. Biden is an ass! I still shudder when I remember him grilling Torquemada
Marquis de Gonzales and then turning around and saying ' I like you, you're the real deal', and voting to confirm him.

Forget thinking about the possible run for Prez in '08 Joe. You got about as much 'joementum' as that other Joe guy.
