Kennedy to Attach Minimum Wage Increase to Bankruptcy Bill
3 March 2005

Ted Kennedy a leading opponent of the Senate’s attempt to overhaul bankruptcy laws has vowed to continue to fight its passage. Yesterday during a day of debate “ Democrats maintained a rhetorical accent on what they see as the inequity of the bankruptcy legislation.” A staunch advocate for raising the minimum wage, Kennedy intends to attach an increase in the minimum wage to the bankruptcy bill.

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., a leading opponent of the legislation as written, will try to get an increase in the minimum wage — a top priority of the Democrats — attached to it, aides said. Kennedy's proposal would lift the hourly minimum from $5.15 to $7.25 over two years.

5. Every ammendment the Dems have tried to attach to the Bankruptcy
Edited on Thu Mar-03-05 04:31 PM by FogerRox
reform bill has been voted down. Like the one that exempts Iraqi vets-if they file for bankruptcy.
Or the one that exempts Seniors 1st $75,000 of liquidity in their home.

4. Good for the Senator to fight this awful thing. Almost every other
Senator is laying down for this truly shitty bill.

8. Even if passes...
... this one seems destined to be stripped out in conference. I applaud the effort, though.

9. Now they need to add some kind of "gay relationship" recognition to it
I mean, to REALLY get in the faces of the Rethugs.

Something about gay couples filing joint bankrputcy.
