Who is the CA supposed Heavyweight that will take on Arnold??
Yeserday there was one of those lead in's to 'the next story after the break' on one of the cable news networks. It was about a supposed "California heavyweight" that was going to challenge Arnold ....you know, like known name or beloved poltician, etc. Anyone know who the person is????

1. Carl Reiner, aka "Meathead"?
That was the talk last week. Can't you see the media running the ads on that. I'd like to see Clint Eastwood go for it.

2. Dirty Harry and the Gropinator fight over the macho vote...
splitting the Repubs and giving the election to the "Meathead."

Works for me.

3. No idea, but...
I think the only one with enough popularity to possibly take him on right now is Barbara Boxer, and I'd rather have her in the Senate.

Ooh, maybe it's Tim Robbins!

4. Well if it's MeatHead--It's about time
Then again, Meathead is an icon of my generation--the "Nam shit generation". That doesn't appeal to the young who don't even know about it while Arnie is a DVD fixture. And Clint is an asshole making B movies that the Hollywood crowd give him awards for and shouldn't. Hell he owns the place. Overrated guy with tons of money and influence. Get the fucking stars out of your eyes CA----I know, I know. You who have a brain know but the rest vote because of their favorite movie. Let them eat cake---shit---they deserve it.

7. I'm not too sure. California blew it by electing Mary Bono (widow
of Sonny) over Ralph Waite (from The Waltons) who ran against her for a congressional seat. Dueling celebrities don't always work out the way you would like.

8. California didn't "blow it.", Southern California blew it.
Cause it just blows in general. Mary Bono was perfectly representative of her district.

Northern California has a lot of stars in politics but not the Hollywood type.

Her district is in Palm Springs, a distinctly red inland area with a disproportionate number of golf courses and attached retirement communities.

9. He's made Gay Rights his issue.
I'm not sure if that makes him DOA statewide, but the entire center and much of the south of the state is pretty "red". I like him and I'm not gay, but just not sure of his general appeal because of that.

10. Agelides and Lockyer both have their strengths.
Angelides is a GREAT speaker who has exactly the right message and has every bit the great immigrant story that Arnold has.

Lockyer is a big, tough-looking guy who was a school teacher and went to night law school when he was in the legislature. He's building up tough-guy bona fides as AG while also having a GREAT progressive record.

They both have the stuff to make Arnold look like a phoney worshiper of big money who doesn't care about protecting the middle class.

11. Feinstein!!
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 01:30 AM by calipendence
I'd rather her try to take on the fiscal mess and fix it than Arny and I'd rather have someone else in to represent Dems in Washington! Have her run for Governor, PLEASE!

But if they could talk Bill Clinton into running, I wouldn't complain! And if they try to rehash the Monica stuff, I think Arny has more to lose in that battle! :)

senate seat?

13. But he doesn't live here
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 02:16 AM by Dookus
edit:

It would be really silly to run for Governor of a state you visit a few times a year for a Board Meeting (if he even comes in person - he could do video conferences for most of 'em, I suppose).

14. The only declared candidates are Lockyer and Angelides
Algelides is great. He goes liberal everytime Torres and the Party goes conservative but I don't know if he can beat Arnold.

Lockyer voted for Arnold and agrees with him on a lot of stuff.

See if you can get a movie star to run against Arnold - but not Sheen. We want Sheen to run for Senate.

22. Because I think it's silly
I don't go to Martin Sheen for dental work, I don't go to Rob Reiner to fix my brakes, I don't go to Sean Penn when my dog is sick.

Having name recognition doesn't quality one to govern. I wish Americans would have a little more respect for our elected offices.
