I've been away from DU for a week- What happened to the Gannon scandal |
|
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 09:46 PM by Dr Fate
I am assuming that my predictions were correct- that Democrats would kill the story by refusing to talk about it on TV.
Was I right?
I'm seeing little or no discussion of "Bush's Monica" here at DU- so I am assuming that Hillary, Kerry, Obama, Dean etc offically "killed" it.

2. Who is stopping Hillary, Kerry, Dean & Obama from talking about it on TV? |
|
And why in the WORLD are we expecting the media to run stories on why they are so corrupt? Exactly WHY would they do that?
The fact that "Gannon" is not a household name is Hillary, Dean, Kerry, Obama's fault.

8. Since when do swing voters read DU threads??? |
|
And since when do voters who base their vote on "morals" read DU threads???
This story was dead in the water as soon as it came out- just like I predicted.
I'm quite dissapointed (sighhhhh-AGAIN) with Democratic "leadership."

It's great that DUers are discussing it- but if it were a DEM Prez, "Gannon" would be a household scandal by now- DEMS could have made this stick, but instead of Hillary, Dean, Obama, etc talking about it on TV, it's just us DUers.
Somtimes I think DEM leaders are too cowardly to take on Bush/media-and we will lose in 2006 with that attitude.

and the majority of the Dem Party are part of that. How many people in Congress Rethugs or Dems are NOT millionaires? How may top level people in the Bush Junta are NOT millionaires? Millionaires support other millionairs and billionairs. They throw out a few scraps to the population to keep the Govt. and the system from being overthrown.

21. It's the Media. Dem leaders can't do anything to push the story but |
|
many of them are trying to get Bush to release who gave the okay to Jimmy/Jeff to get in as a reporter. They've filed a FOIA and Bush refuses to answer them.
You have to remember that Clinton had Mellon-Scaife money plus MSNBC/GE and Newsweek's Issikoff pushing Monica Gate 24/7.
We don't have anyone...and the media won't even report on the Dems not getting an answer from Bush. They have no power and no media...just us here on the "internets."

...it COULD be on CBS, CNN, the NBCs, and in every newspaper, every day- but top DEMS refuse to go on TV and talk about it.
This is the very model of why the GOP/media will defeat us, once again, in 2006.

That is the question- as I said, I dont expect the GOP/media to go on TV every night and tell us how corrupt they are- I do however, expect top, household name DEMS to do so.

"Give it a rest" he tells me!
If you dont think media bias/propaganda is an issue that needs to be ATTACKED, then you must want to lose in 2006.
You don't win elections by resting my friend- you win them by destroying your opponents(the GOP/media) credibility.
We cant have a REAL, fair national discussion of all the issues you mentioned until we expose the media.

22. Yes. I believe our senators and representatives SHOULD HAVE BEEN |
|
addressing the issues of media manipulation and voter disenfranchisement these last four years. Instead, they were busy rubber-stamping Bush's agenda.
Don't lump dean in with those other fucking losers. He's only been a position of power for 2 weeks.
Like I said, though...compared to what's been going on during the bush administration, the Gannon story is pretty small potatoes.

24. Howard Dean on media shenanigans.... |
|
" Last week, communications giant Sinclair Broadcasting announced that they would require all 62 of their television affiliates to pre-empt regularly scheduled programs and air a film that casts Sen. John Kerry in a very unfavorable and false light. Many of these stations, affiliates of ABC, CBS, NBC and UPN, are in battleground states like Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan. This essentially becomes free advertising for the Bush-Cheney campaign in some very important and influential states during this election season.
This is not the first time Sinclair Broadcasting stations were required to do something that advanced the right-wing agenda. Last spring, Sinclair refused to allow any of its ABC affiliates to carry a Nightline episode that honored soldiers who had been killed in Iraq. The episode was a way to memorialize and remember the soldiers that gave their lives fighting for our country. But at the time, the executives at Sinclair Broadcasting unilaterally decided that the program "appears to be motivated by a political agenda designed to undermine the efforts of the United States in Iraq".
This election cycle, executives of Sinclair Broadcasting have contributed tens of thousands of dollars in political contributions, 97 percent of which have gone to Republican candidates. Their vice president for corporate relations and their spokesperson, Mark Hyman, is also a conservative commentator for Sinclair Broadcasting. Every day a one-to-two minute report by Hyman is distributed to stations that promotes the agenda of the Republican Party.
Incidents like this are not good for America. Today the Democratic candidate for president is victimized. In the future, it may be a Republican."
