Chris Heinz for Senate in PA!!!
MSNBC:

One possible pro-Roe entrant into the race: Chris Heinz, son of Republican Sen. John Heinz, who was killed in plane-helicopter collision in 1991. Chris Heinz campaigned widely last year for his stepfather, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.
...
The younger Casey said Wednesday his father "would be very encouraged by the fact that the party is more embracing of a broader point of view, on a number of fronts, including abortion. That's one of the messages he wanted to deliver in 1992."
...
Franklin & Marshall College political analyst Terry Madonna points out that the younger Casey "has not been a crusader on the abortion issue, unlike his father. It's not a subject on which he proselytizes. He generally can go for months and unprompted will not bring up the subject."

1. See, that's the thing. Casey is not a fiery-eyed pro-life monster...
I can see people being worried he would add another anti-choice vote once he's in the Senate, but he's not the troglodyte on everything else that Santorum is. And he can BEAT SANTORUM. And he's squeaky-clean, to boot. They'll try to throw everything at him but there isn't anything to stick. Casey can defeat Santorum!

4. As I posted in the Pennsylvania forum
If Chris doesn't run for the Senate then he should run for Melissa "Missy" Hart's House seat. She's a Bush Brown Noser of the highest order.

BTW, great story about her. When she was first elected to the House she got on an elevator in the Capitol building and a couple of African-American women got on as well. Missy proceeded to tell them the elevator was for Congress members only! Yep, you guessed it - they were congresswomen!

2. Wonder if Chris Heinz needs party backing...3-way in PA???
Just curious, if the Dem leadership in PA has already decided on Casey, and Santorum is the obvious GOP candidate, what would happen if Chris Heinz ran as an independent...how would that poll?

Hands down. If Heinz runs, I'm pretty sure he'd run as a Democrat.

6. He should run for Hart's seat or Lt. Gov.:
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 04:21 PM by mdguss
Casey is a good guy, a good Democrat, and also campaigned hard for his step-father. Casey's a liberal populist. The kind of Democrat that can beat Rick Santorum.

Heinz is a promising politician, and one whose time will come, but Bob Casey is in a much better position to beat Santorum. Hart is the next Santorum, so running against her would be a good thing to do.

Lt. Gov. Katherine Baker Knoll really should be challenged in the primary, but many of the potential candidates for that position have fizzled out. Heinz would be a good candidate for that job.

he should run for house of rep if he wants to run for public office first. and maybe later for Senate.

30. What does he have exactly?
Wealth? Good looks? Family legacy? posted on Du a few times? I start to think that there's no difference between repubs and democrats when it comes to creating a political monarchy...ooops I mean dynasty. It's quite revolting to me, how many politicians on both sides of the aisle are there because the parties are promoting political nepotism.

I'd like to see less silver spoons frankly.

16. I'd like to see him run in the Republican primary against RS...
But, I believe he changed his party affiliation to Democrat (as did Teresa). Yes, his father was a Republican but he was a true bipartisan Senator who was in no way a neo-con or social regressive.

22. I recall Chris saying . . .
That he identifies most with moderates, but out of the two parties, he identifies with the Democrats. Based on what I've heard him say in interviews, I think he would definitely run as a Democrat.

He lauched into this huge story about how the answer was yes, and how he dated gwenyth paltrow

20. I'd love to see him run for Hart's seat . . .
There's no doubt in my mind that Chris could be a great senator someday, but he probably needs to get a little more political experience and pay some dues before jumping to that level. I hope Chris does decide to run for something because, from what I've seen, he's a very intelligent and well-spoken person. BTW, Chris, are you here lurking among us? What are your thoughts?

Casey is the candidate whose getting all the organizational and money support from the state and national dem establishment. The Dem Senate Campaign Committee was playing up Casey's numbers. Pinnochio is an unknown who they are not risking resources on.

31. I don't know much about Casey
I don't know much about Casey, but if he is a strong candidate and has more experience than Heinz, I think he should run against Santorum. He sounds like he has a better chance to win.

I do think that Chris Heinz has a great future in politics. I heard him speak some on CSPAN during the campaign and thought he was young and vibrant. He would be very appealing. But I think he needs to start lower. The idea of him running for Lt. Governor or for the House is a great idea. I would even respect him if he ran for mayor of his hometown. Any smaller political office where he could get his name out and show that he is willing to work for a career in politics is good. If he ran for senate, many people will think he is trying to live off of his father's and step fathers careers.

32. I wish he would come here and
tell us where he is on some issues, but the last time he did that couldn't have been too pleasant for him. It seems some people were not nice because of who he is.

I'd also vote for his mom if she ran for anything. :)
