Rick Santorum's LTTE - he calls out those who challenge him
RECENT letters have misrepresented my position on Social Security reform.

I do not intend to eliminate Social Security or dismantle it. Instead, I believe Congress must work on a bipartisan solution to strengthen it for future generations. Falling birth rates, increasing life expectancies and the retirement of the baby boomers have created a situation in which there will not be enough workers to support retirees, and our system will not be able to afford to pay full, or even nearly full, benefits to our children and grandchildren without reform.

Doing nothing is not an acceptable option because, if we wait, the only solution will be drastically higher taxes, massive new borrowing or sudden and severe cuts in Social Security benefits or other government programs.

Letter-writer Jeffrey Harlan inaccurately claimed that my efforts to strengthen Social Security were an effort to "cut money" for elderly Americans. This could not be further from the truth. I remain committed to preserving benefits for current beneficiaries and near-retirees.

Julie Krug, of Philadelphia, mistakenly depicted my efforts to strengthen and save Social Security as "a first step toward getting rid of Social Security."

The putz fails to demonstrate how they are mistaken, or how he plans to prevent the outcomes they envision, but obviously wants them to know he has their names written down in his book of naughty boys and girls. What a putz.

1. We then Mr. Santorum ...
why don't you face your detractors in a public forum and give them "what for"?

Oh yes, because you can't keep saying "my efforts to strengthen Social Security" without giving, oh, I dunno ... FACTS!

2. I guess he forgot about those tapes at one of his events of his supporters

chanting "Hey Hey, Ho Ho, Social Security has got to go"

They were replaying these tapes on Randi's show (hosted by Sam Seder) last night.

On edit: See the video of this here: http://www.chuck2006.com/videos/PFP.Video.SantorumForum.HeyHey.wmv

Second edit: He also forgot to mention that he scrubbed the poll from his site when over 90% of the respondents said they were against private accounts:

3. He's very thin skinned
PA needs a Dem candidate who will go after him like an attack dog. Then watch Santorum blubber his way through explanations.

I think it would be easy to make him cry.

6. He's such a sissy
Last week I called Specter's and Santorum's office while the Senate was debating the bankruptcy bill. Specter's staff was very professional. I had made a little bullet-point list of the the worst aspects of the bill and asked them to relay to him that as a constituent I felt strongly that this bill should be defeated. They were very polite and thanked me for calling.

Santorum's staff are just as smarmy as he is. I barely got a few words out of my mouth and the guy on the other end barked "What's your name and address?" I got through my name and half of my address and he cut me off and filled in the rest of the information then hung up on me.

I guess I'm going to get another scolding letter from Man-on_Dog. I'll add it to my collection.

7. Smarmy - good adjective
Keep those letter/calls coming. I'm originally from the Pgh. area. My whole family is still there. I can not believe this idiot was elected/re-elected.

I really hope someone good takes him on.

4. Gee Rick
If you quit throwing money away on foreign imperialism and emptying the Treasury into the pockets of your overrich political benefactors, do you think there might be some money available to "do something" about your alleged crisis?

You and your congressional cronies turned a budget surplus into the largest federal deficits ever seen in just three years, and now you're asking us to believe that you guys have a plan and are responsible enough with our money to "save" social security? I don't know whether you think we're really that stupid, or if you're just that cynical -- either way, I find it pretty insulting.

Go get a real job, Mr. Santorum. You're only hurting the team.
