Senate rejects Medicaid
cuts from Bush budget, $14 billion. Just heard on Bloomberg. Think they said the vote was 52/48 so the Repukes are breaking ranks for this one.

1. well just flippin' great
Gordon Smith saves Medicaid!! We have to run against that in two years. I'm glad for the program, but why'd it have to be fishboy who doesn't give a shit about the people 90% of the time.

4. Oh I know
I am grateful, truly, I also know Oregon desperately needs that money. As many other states do.

How should I take it? Smith does just enough liberal stuff to appear moderate? Or us Oregonians keep the pressure on him enough to keep him from going completely over the edge?

But I don't look forward to having to campaign against a Republican who voted for ANWR and saved Medicaid.

3. I see to check those votes latter and
see if the dems really hung together on this one. That would be amazing in itself.

6. All of them, every last one
The votes up, it is amazing. All 48 nays were Republicans. Of course, in a Presidential election this goes down as "voted to take your money and give it to the (insert minority slander) and the welfare queens".

5. As the daughter of someone who used to rely on it in a nursing home
I'm grateful. Without that money, many nursing homes I assume were going to have to close. Not to mention those who rely on it for health car.e

7. Oregon was in real trouble
My daughter was an aide in a retirement home for a while. After the first batch of cuts a couple years ago, Oregon was scrambling to figure out how to cover nursing home care. My daughter told me about cases of married couples where they were going to have to throw out one partner because one qualified under new Medicaid laws and the other didn't. So Oregon desperately needed this and I don't think it's an accident that Smith's name is on this and that he's up for election in 2 years. Great legislation, bad for us to run against, that's all.
