Republican 2006 Budget: No One is Safe Republicans in the House Budget Committee have thrown together a budget that is just as bad as the President's. Both budgets leave out the costs of Republican privatization plans for Social Security, include extending expensive tax breaks for those who need them least, give a misleading view of future needs and resources, drive the nation even further into debt, and omit the long-term costs of paying for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, the Republican budget slashes $20 billion from Medicaid over five years and targets cuts against programs for low-income workers such as the Earned Income Tax Credit effectively waging a war on the poor. Veterans' benefits, health care for children, education programs, environmental protections, and agriculture programs are all at risk. Cutting vital programs while pursuing massive tax cuts does not represent the values of the American people.
